RKic
Nice one. What is the story behind this aircraft? What special ops did it participate in?
Dave Williams
Nice one. What is the story behind this aircraft? What special ops did it participate in? Not sure it participated in any special ops, but it was a recon bird. Basically, it was a long range aerial camera fitted into the nose of a converted F-4E. The GD HIAC-1 camera could be carried in a centerline pod under a standard F-4, but the drag reduced performance such that the IAF believed that made the aircraft vulnerable to increasing Arab air defenses. Three F-4E(S) aircraft were converted from IAF F-4Es.
phantom
Thanks Dave, figured it was special ops as it was one of three purpose modified airframes for the extremely dangerous long range photo recon employed by the IDF.
