Spectre711
Have an old 1/72 Matchbox kit that I'm going to try to build as a He 11H-6 torpedo bomber. I have some Begemot decals to make this as a 1/KG26 plane operating out of northern Norway in the Arctic theater against Allied convoys and the Russian Fleet (according to the decals). It is a bagged kit and most of it looks like it is there so I started to work on the wings first. I have to figure out the interior colors and find some crew members. Spectre711
I assembled some more and started painting some of the interior that might be visible. I also scrounged through my stash and found 4 figures that I might be able to use as the crew. I think the hardest thing with this build is going to be locating torpedoes. Pete
Gotta love those old, multi-colored, Matchbox kits. What's this one like, iirc they were a bit hit or miss. For the torpedo's, maybe you can use the ones in one of those Revell Fw-190 kits?
Spectre711
The fit is actually pretty good but it has those deep panel lines and thick clear parts. Would that be a RoG Fw190? I don't recall any of the US ones having them.
Pete
Yeah, RoG. This one. No idea how easy it is to find, though. Or if that type of torpedo is correct.
Spectre711
Pete, I think for the most part all of the torpedoes were the same type. I just don't know if the rack or mount is the same though.
Bigasshammm
There was a he-111 kit that came with the torpedo. Was either hasegawa or italeri. I had it at one time but have since sold it so I can't remember exactly.
Spectre711
I just got an Italeri He111 H-6 and the seller threw in a couple of extra torpedoes so I'm in good shape now on that. Did a little seam filling and sanding.
Pete
Looking good! Gotta love those funky Matchbox plastic colors.
Spectre711
I just got some paint for this one so I'll be working on it again. I have the sanding done and started to mask the glass but took a break and never started back up.
Spectre711
I'm missing part of the spinners so I'm going to make them. It's blurry but you can see the yellow plastic that I glued to the front part of the spinner with white glue. When I have the yellow down to size and shape I'll mark for orientation and then drop the spinners in water to disolve the white glue. This way I can continue as if I had the kit parts. Pete
That should do the trick. Clever idea!
Spectre711
I just hope it works as good as the idea sounds.
Spectre711
WOW, there's not much time left. I was thinking we had till the end of March but that's wrong. I just got these resin bomb racks to use that my friend made a copy of the Iteleri ones. We will see how far I get. Between work and shoveling snow I've been exhausted and haven't been doing much at all.
Pete
Those castings looks pretty good. Hope to see it finished on time.

Spectre711
Its been a busy couple of days between building, daughters basketball, Sons Boy Scouts and a trip to Philly yesterday. More basketball tonight!
Spectre711
Last night after posting I went back to work on the propellers, torpedoes and actually masked and laid down the second color of green. Today I painted the torpedoes with some steel to contrast with the aluminum color and painted the props. Was frustrated with trying to mask the glass and make it look good and just hand painted the frames. I even put some decals on the underside.
Spectre711
it's my anniversary tonight so I probably will not get any build time in.:crying2:/>
Spectre711
Stayed up a little late and installed the rest of the decals. This morning before I left for work I shot some clear and after work I applied a sludge wash. I painted some little guys also. Spectre711
And this is where I am now with a dull coat applied. I hope to finish this tomorrow with some final assembly and some drybrushing.
Spectre711
Just under the wire here. Thought I had a wooden base to mount it on but nothing large enough. Edited March 1, 2014 by Spectre711
