1/48 Su-33 Sea Flanker

Another detail I confirmed is that the wheels will be injection styrene molded rather than rubber. :woo:/>

:cheers:/>

Oh thank the heavens for that bit of news :thumbsup2: . I really do understand why manufactures use the vinyl since it gives the detail on the thread required but boy does it ever suck to work with.

I am so happy that this was announced and I was just about to order the conversion so thanks too for saving me some moula :) Somehow a Su-27 with folded wings just looks so cool compared to other aircraft. Maybe it is because the aircraft itself is so big.

Whatever, I can hardly wait.

I'm happy to see this collaborative approach to R&D. I hope it pays of for everyone in the end. I believe that this process will eliminate most if not all errors, but I will be interested to see how the blame game pans out if there are design issues! There won't be any room to argue the typical "Chinese manufacturers don't care enough to look into it" or "if they had only asked us first" kind of comments!

Ya-Gabor

I work with Dassault System the creators of CATIA

This is definitively CATIA, the workbenches they need for this setup do not come cheap!

I'm really impressed!

Just a little off topic here, sorry

I use Solidworks in my day to day job and that is a Dassault product. I thought CATIA was originally an IBM product. I guess Dassault bought them out? I know when we were deciding (actually I made the decision) on a 3D platform I went with Solidworks. CATIA was substantially more and for what our office needed not necessary. Solidworks works great for us.

So the fact that Zeveda is using CATIA is impressive. Hey I even heard that Boeing using CATIA.

It is pretty simple really. We all blame Obama* :) Problem solved.

*Not political, it is a meme.

CATIA was developed by Avions Dassault in the late '70 running on mainframe, Dassault Systeme was created to develop CATIA and IBM was the distributor, Boeing become the main customer. CATIA was later ported to Unix and then to Windows. SolidWorks was developed on Windows by a startup company and then bought by Dassault Systeme

Any news :-)

Corrections to the CAD were made and the tools are being cut.

Box-art, decals and instructions are in the works. I hope to post some pictures when the time comes.

Still no news on estimated release date or price...

Oh crap. :doh:/>

Oh well.

All of us modelers thank you!

If you hadn't spent so much time and effort on your conversion the kit probably wouldn't have been created!

I am so glad i did not make the Academy/ Wolfpack/ Sol conversion. I have all the stuff  , but if it comes in one box, i think i go for this one. What? i certainly go for my No.2 aircraft, and its made by Zactoman!!

2014 is going to be a good year for Russian aircraft builders. Now my Shared No.1 (MiG-25) has been newly made, my other part of No.1 the MiG-31. I heard rumors that this beast is coming out in 1/48 :yahoo:

Go Zactoman, go!!

Regards,

Remco

Go Zactoman, go!!

Thank you for the enthusiasm and confidence aimed in my direction, but as I have noted earlier in the thread, I just helped out a talented team.

I hope we have done our homework and the final kit will be well received.

I've just remembered an incident at a MAKS show at Zhukovsky that I went to back in the 90's......

The Su-33 was being displayed by none other than Victor Pugachev - he of 'Pugachev's Cobra' fame.

As he landed and taxied down the runway, he put the aircraft into a 360deg turn on the wide runway - right in front of the crowd.

He went into the turn with his wings down - and came out of the turn with his wings folded......

Pure showmanship :thumbsup::worship:

Zactoman, I hope you have a Prosperous and Happy New Year.

..... and a Happy New Year to all fellow Arcers...

Ken

Gosh,

This looks better and better...

I may be biased, but I have to agree!

Here are some updated CAD images. A bunch of small but significant changes have been made since the original CADs were posted.

I'm still waiting for an answer on estimated cost and release date and hope to have the box art image soon.

Zactoman;

I'm really glad that companies are dealing with men of your's and Yufei's caibre; that will ensure far superior products. After the way trumpeter screwed you (which I believe they did by not compensating you for your work on their 1/32 kit) I hope you will be justly rewarded. From our side, all I can say is thanks. Also, are their plans for a simple su 27b?

Since etched parts are in yellow, it caught my eye... I was expecting to see a etched part for HUD frame. I see neither plastic nor etched part for it.

HUD will be etch and clear film. That layer of the CAD was just turned off.

Will there be alternative parts for those that prefer their aircraft unfolded?

No...

Upper and lower fuselage parts will include the inboard wing section up to the hinge. The outer wing parts are separate. Stabilizers will also be multi-piece.

We won't know until we have plastic, but I'm confident the fit will be nice enough that this will not be a problem for those not displaying it folded.
