1/48 Su-33 Sea Flanker

Recommended Posts

Damn that's sexy! Man...cannot wait! Bring it!

I sure hope so! I guess everything will depend on how well the Su-33 does.

Chris,

To quote Kaiser Chiefs, "I predict a riot" when this kit comes out...start planning for extended runs and Su-27!

Any chances that a Su-27 will follow?

There are really enough Su-27 out there already. I wish a company could release 1/48 Su-35 and Su-34 twin seater as soon as possible.

There are only the aging Academy kit and its knock-offs out there currently in 1:48 scale. Though there's also the Hobby Boss kit that has been dragging through catalogs for a couple of years now, but when it will finally show up and how good it will be is anybody's guess.

There is never enough Su-27! :woot.gif: Academy kit has fair bit of issues, and it is reasonable to expect that HB kit, whenever it will be released, will carry over the mistakes done in the 1/72 kit. It would be an improvement over Academy kit for sure, but it will certainly not be "perfect".

If someone did a really good Su-27, lets say of quality of this Su-33, that would be the same as license to print money.

And in danger of being pedantic; there is single seater Su-34? :P

Still it's better to have Su-35,37,34 on the market that never saw 1/48 scales before.

100% agree with this. Have built a few academy kits and have never been happy with the look of the forward fuselage (I realize there are AM corrections for this) I have been holding off on buying another to see what the HB version like, if indeed it ever materializes. A quality standard su27 would be exactly what the doctor ordered.

Only the hardest of the die hards is going to even know what an Su-33 is, much less buy one.

Oh I disagree! When I gathered up the kit, decals and all the resin needed to make a 1/72nd version, I had to wait a long time. Everything was severaly backordered. Think it took me six months to get it all together (and by that time my insect-like attention span had lost interest in building it) :)

I think the -27 and -33 are the two that most of us know, and if they don't know the -33 by number, they know "sea flanker". It's the -35, -37, et al where things start falling off. I think this kit will sell very well, and much better than some of the 50's and 60's era new tools we've seen in the last few years.

Cheers,

Bill

There's already been enough discussion on Hobbyboss's list...the 1/48 Su-27 has been on their list for 5+ years so no one is really expecting it to show up this year if ever...

Well, the Trumpeter 1/32 and Hobby Boss 1/48 A-6 kits were also thought to have been vaporware but they did eventually come to fruition albeit a good many years after they were announced. Pretty good kits to boot too.
