vince14
After the disaster that the Mirage turned out to be, I'm going for something I hope will be less of an issue.... This is the Airfix de Havilland Vampire T.11, which I'm going to make as a T.55 of the Advanced Flying School, Pietersburg, South African Air Force in 1971. I'll be using Xtradecal sheet X72173 for the decals, Eduard etched parts and two Pavla Models seats designed for the Vampire Mk.1 (the aircraft I'm modelling didn't have ejector seats). The cockpit is underway. I painted the floor silver, then futured it, then sprayed it black. I then scratched the floor up to make it look like it's seen a lot of use over the years. VG 33
Good start with this Vampire. It seems that this kit is a best seller for this GB, and this is not the last one... Patrick
Nicolaas
I'm looking forward to this one! What paint are you going to use for the dayglo colour?
vince14
So in a push to get this finished before the end of the GB... Now painted - Alclad Aluminium (with selected panels picked out in Gunze Sangyo Aluminium) for the most part, with Tamiya PS-24 Flourescent Orange for the Day-Glo. Decals are going on now, so hopefully I should still make it! Vince
vince14
The decals are on... Must admit, I'm a bit disappointed with the Xtradecal set - the national insignia are slightly out of register and they really didn't want to move once on the model, which is why the upper wing insignia is too far inboard (the first one refused to move when placed on the kit). Also the SAAF version is lacking the correct stencil data. The sheet says to use those supplied with the kit, but the kit 'No Step' versions are wrong for the SAAF Vampire. vince14
Well, I'm classing this one as done! Not my best ever effort - not fault of the kit, it's a little gem and I hope Airfix up-scale it and release it in 1/48 or 1/32. Cockpit details Vince

swbailey
Very nice! And just under the wire... I like the busy look of the cockpit.
