December 9th is the day that USAir becomes nothing but a bad memory. Of course all of the miserable employees and dirty aircraft will still be around but it's still a step in the right direction.

Now if only Emirates or some other airline that actually understands what "customer service" means steps up to purchase American (and ideally Delta while they are at it), things will truly improve.

On a related note, why do I think that despite all the official statements, this is going to do nothing except reduce competition and raise ticket prices?

See ya USAir!!

I had the misfortune after 34 years with a great airline (Eastern) to go with a company that did USAir's cargo work. Fortunately for me, the same company did japan Air, icelandair, and several other airlines, so I was able for the most part, to avoid doing USAir's stuff. My only commentary is that it was a very sloppily run airline, with an absolutely horrible and archaic, user unfriendly computer system. Flew on them once, and was not impressed. Besides Eastern, i've flown on all the major U S airlines, and a few of the minor ones. USAir would be at the bottom of my list were I to select an airline to use now.

USAir? It's been US Airways for the last 15 years. If you're going to insult the people that work there at least get the name right.

I am a VERY frequent US Airways flyer (home airport PHL)with 68 segments this year so far. I am a very satisfied customer, whose overall experience with them is quite good. I think the aircraft are as clean as any other carrier, I have not had a misdirected piece of luggage in five years and the cabin crews and phone customer service are just fine to deal with. Admittedly some of the gate agents in PHL are not the best, but it is Philly...

The problem(s) with US Airways weren't miserable employees or dirty aircraft, it was a management structure that didn't give a flying f*ck about anything but their own outrageous salaries and bonuses.

Probably true but the customer doesn't see that side, only the front-line personnel and equip.

Volzj - I'm not the frequent flier that you are (less than half the flights that you have this year). I don't doubt that they had some good employees that care about customer service, all I can say is that based on my experiences (and those of the vast majority of my co-workers and friends who are frequent fliers), they simply suck and are to be avoided unless there are absolutely no other options available.

However, I'm lucky to fly out of airports (PVD and BOS) that offer decent alternatives like SW and Jet Blue.

Anyway, what do I know? I used to enjoy flying on Continental.

For those that lament the passing of this great airline, have no worries. American wasn't much better so you will still have plenty of opportunities to savor the US Airways experience.

Qnd it's not going anywhere, they're just changing the name. I can't think of a worse combination of two airlines. Maybe Alitalia and Interflug...

Well there are alot of investors and people in the financial world, who know alot more about it that you do, who disagree. Just sayin.

All that's gonna happen is you bitchers and whiners complaining about US Airways/American are going to switch to some other airlines and their bitchers and whiners are going to switch to US Airways/American. That's what always happens.

I flew on US Airways twice: Once for three stop flight to Virginia, and then another three back home.

So far it feels like every usual flight: cramped seats, loud crying baby passengers, long waiting time in the terminals, short notice flight schedules, etc.

The only plus side is when I missed the flight they were able to book me a new flight in seconds but at a cost.

That was the only time I ever flew with US Airways. I don't know how this service affected anyone here but I can be among those who won't miss it.

I only flew USAir when I was fairly young... my mum used to live in SoCal, and I'd fly down twice a year to visit her, flying usually PSA but sometimes AirCal. I loved PSA... and then USAir took them over and it went pretty quickly downhill, enough so for even a preteen to notice. Not gonna mourn them. I never had any bad experiences with American, though, but. I don't think anything will ever beat what it was like flying PSA and CP Air as a UM kid!

I guess everyone has a different experience. Yesterday, I finished flying two trips back to back (seven days total) over one of the busiest periods of the year. It was around 2,000 people coast to coast, and even a side trip to Belize. We only had one problem - I had to remove a drunk and disorderly passenger in Los Angeles. Not a single flight was late, in fact, most were either on time or early. Most passengers had some genuinely nice comments about their flight experience and the cabin crew. The crews and staff missed their families over the Holiday - but no complaints. It still remains my observation that most do the best the can to provide good service, and I still consider myself to be very fortunate that I still enjoy my profession.

PS, I got to fly this very 737-900 on this trip. Only been on the property three weeks when I got to fly it from Tampa to Atlanta (yes, it does smell like a new car :)

I worked for US Air/Allegheny commuter on DH-6's and Dash-7's in the late 70's flying out of NewJersey, Atlantic City Newark run, were not that bad in the beginning but when the fuel shortage hit boy they show their true colors. But all is not that bad, I guess you could say they made my decision to Join the USAF, 20+ years of Bliss......
