Navy WV-2 Gray FS Number?

I've been asked to build a Navy WV-2 (USAF EC-121) for a veteran. I have obtained the 1/72 kit and work has begun.

I asked him about the finish on the aircraft in his squadron. He said they were overall gray, but does not remember which gray. Best guess was "medium gray!"

I have done several photo and text searches but cannot come up with a valid reference. Anyone out there that knows which gray was used? I have seen several pictures that show a very dark gray finish, but he insists it is not the overall gray that his squadron used.

I know this is kind of general, there may have been several grays used over the years depending on the aircraft mission, etc., but thought it was worth a check.

They look like FS 16081 Engine Gray to me - a rather dark shade when fresh, but it tended to lighten when weathered.
