Cobus
Hi, When should I do the dipping? After removing seams and micromesh/compound polishing (obviously) but before or after painting the canopy? My thinking says after painting, but then the paint will be gloss. if I dip it before painting, how well will the Future stand up to Tamiya masking tape? And would I then have to remove the Future from the areas that have to be painted?
is it windy yet?
Before painting and after sanding and polishing. The future will stand up to Tamiya masking tape with no problems. So tough infact that you could wipe off any tape residue with varsol with no frosting or damage.
daywalker
What is varsol? I have been looking for something that will take off the tamiya tape residue without harming the Future.
phasephantomphixer
I don't know what Varsol is either (because I am Stateside?) but I always use Mineral Spirit to remove adhesive gunk.
FluffyK
What is varsol? I have been looking for something that will take off the tamiya tape residue without harming the Future. Use citrus-based "Goo Gone" instead. Works like a charm. I picked some up at the local supermarket.

Netz
You can mask with Para-Film and have no glue residue to deal with in the 1st place. Curt
Fly-n-hi
You can polish out your canopies with Novus and forget about Future all together.
sluggo2u
What is varsol? I have been looking for something that will take off the tamiya tape residue without harming the Future. Varsol is a petroleum product that used to be used by mechanics to clean parts. It's basically a paint thinner. I believe the EPA banned it's sale in the states in the 90s. Allegedly, Home depot sells this product My link that has similar qualities. I do not know that from experience however. Home Depot Canada appears to have Varsol on the selves. On my last build I cleaned the OOB canopy with denatured alcohol and lightly polished it with Meguiars plastic polish (1 pass) and it turned out nice. I try to leave my canopies masked for the entire painting process so I don't risk having more than one paint edge. The longer you leave any tape on, the more likely you'll have residue. I will try the clean and polish method on my next build and if it's as successful as the last time, Future may not be in my Future. I use 3M General Purpose adhesive cleaner at work all the time. Never thought about using it over Future. It might be ok and I know you can buy it in the states. I use it on painted and unpainted plastic trim parts on cars all the time and have never had it cause any damage. It's ridiculously expensive at walmart My link best bet is to search the interweb for prices. It comes in an aeresol can as well. balls47
Yessir, if you're gonna use Future, do like the others said. Do your sanding, polishing, and such. After that, do the Future dunk. Then mask and paint. The only thing that I would add it to let your Future dry AND cure for at least 48 hours before masking and painting. Same goes for applying decals. Let the Future dry AND cure for at least 48 hours before applying the decals. Good Luck!!!
FluffyK
Will the goo gone harm acrylic paints? Nope. I know this because I painted my canopy in Tamiya acrylics (which can be very delicate) and overcoated it in Future before using BMF to mask it. BMF usually leaves a fair amount of residue, which goo-gone cleans right off. No paint or Future came off with the goo-gone: Edited December 20, 2013 by FluffyK

FluffyK
Thank you, I also use Tamiya acrylics and your reply is exactly what I hoped for! Glad to help. Just be careful with their "aluminum." I found it came off very easily.
