falcon20driver
This is the Tamiya P-51B that I'll be building as "Bonnie Bea". Everyone knows about this kit so I want say anything in detail about it. I know the floor is wrong but no one will ever see it and this is just a fun build in between some tough ones. I'll be using foil as my metal finishing material. The inside is pretty much finished since it was out of the box with an old photo etch seat belt sitting around. falcon20driver
Alright gents, I've finally shaken this stupid flu and have gotten some time at home. Time to lock myself in the office and get some work done! I was able to get the main assemblies together and I have started the foiling of my mustang. The first photo shows the tools I use to foil with. The next photo shows the difference between sections of foil that have been buffed with 0000 steel wool versus one that hasn't. The two outer wings have been LIGHTLY buffed while the inner section has not. Here is some more progress: And as it sits right now: I hope to get the mustang fully foiled during my time off and even start decaling. Thanks for looking
AX 365
That's gonna look awesome. Great work so far. Mike
falcon20driver
Thanks to a great work schedule, I've been able to hum right along on this build. I spent a lot of time last night and this morning attacking the foil. I'm nearing a fully foiled mustang, minus all the fiddly bits. Time to get back to work while my T-2 dries from an afternoon paint session. Hopefully I can start placing decals in the next couple days.
Charlie Cheetah
That looks really nice. Got to try foiling one of these days. Love my Alclad too much though.

falcon20driver
Loving this work schedule! As my next coat of paint dries on the Buckeye I kept my focus on the Mustang build. I was able to finish foiling the plane (minus some bits like flaps) and start decaling. As this is sort of an experimental build I went ahead and started decaling directly on the foil. I think it is going fairly well so far and I am mostly happy with how it is looking. It has been a pleasurable build to relax with compared to the other monster. This is my second foiled plane and each one has taught me tricks that I can take into the next NMF build (that won't be anytime soon!). And the usual, as it sits photo: Thanks for looking
B-17 guy
Looks great! The only thing I would say to do is to put foil on the the trim tabs, those are metal.
Netz
What Foil are you using? and with what are you gluing it down with? (if household type foil) Curt
falcon20driver
What Foil are you using? and with what are you gluing it down with? (if household type foil) Curt For almost all my foiling I use bare metal foil. It is just easier for me to use. Occasionally I use kitchen foil if I need to have an off color piece of metal, and I think I use micro mark foil adhesive (same company as micro set/sol).
VMFA314Knights
Looks great - you need sunglasses for that one. David

Deacon
This is a wonderful build mate. The work with foil is stunning. I have a question. I believe when the engine on the P-51B shut down, the wheel well doors did NOT drop which they would on a P-51D. I have 12 photos in one book alone that shows B's or C's with no pilot or crew chiefs around, engine off and wheel well doors up. Others disagree with me though. Cheers Alan
Tom G
Awesome work. Your foil turned out really nice. Nice the way you have some different shades on the rudder and elevators. Nice choice of markings too. Tom
CorsairMan
This is one of the nicest "filings" I have seen. Great model!
falcon20driver
I've pretty much finished this one up. It's certainly not the best work I've done, it was just a fun build to interrupt a few difficult projects I'm finishing/starting. I did enjoy this build though. The Tamiya Mustang has to be the best build to relax with. There were a few minor issues that were all user error, and some inaccuracies, most of which stem from the speed I completed this build with. I'm usually a slow builder. Anyway, here's some photos: This was my second foil covered aircraft, and it taught me quite a few lessons. I will not be building another NMF plane for awhile, but I do look forward to using the tricks I learnt some time in the future.
SERNAK
Great job!!!!! Wish I had the time and patience to "foil" my P-51.
