gary1701
Gents, Really sad news this from one of the local USAF units. Being co-located with three F-15 Squadrons and only having an establishment of five aircraft, the 56th RS tends to get overlooked amongst the locals, as they usually fly at night and and are rarely seen during the day. They occupy a few HAS's on the mostly disused North side of Lakenheath. I gather it was a two-ship sortie with the second aircraft remaining on the ground at the crash site where it landed last night after the accident. It's also being reported that live ammunition is present, which I presume is from the .50 cal that some of these are fitted with at Lakenheath. They may have been operating at Holbeach firing range which isn't that much further North and is sometimes used by the HH-60's for live firing. Although they don't get to see the public much, the 56th usually attended the American themed days at the Duxford museum and they were always keen to talk about their role and show you around their kit. scotthldr
Four of five crew members have been rescued alive, one is still missing. Sadly that isn't the case. Four members of the crew of five were rescued, however one didn't survive. The fifth is missing and the search continues for that crewmember. RIP A second member from the four rescued has now sadly died. RIP Edited January 9, 2014 by scotthldr
