The Madhatter
Greetings all Does anyone know by the off chance what the font type is that Qantas use for their aircraft names? That's the names under the cockpit windows to be clear Thanks everyone MH
The Madhatter
Oh, I did forget to mention that I'm looking for the style of font used on their A330 300 craft. I'm not to sure if they each have their own specific font or if they are all universal.
Jennings
Which Qantas color scheme/time period are you talking about?
The Madhatter
it's the current one - all white with the red tail
scotty100368
MH, For the aircraft names, the 737s and 767s use "Helvetica Normal". The A330s and A380s use "Frutiger LT 55 Roman", of which an italic version is used for the "Spirit of Australia" titles on all aircraft. The registrations use "RAF_PW_ATH" and the aircraft type (in front of door 3 on the A330) is "Airbus Special". The now newer "QANTAS" titling is a customised font which you can trace from logos on google images. Scott. Edited January 18, 2014 by scotty100368
The Madhatter
Mate, that is awesome, thank you So another question then; how big do the letters need to be for a 1/144 decal? Thanks for those help guys MH
scotty100368
You'll just have to use trial and error. Pay attention to positioning relative to other features such as how many windows along the titles go etc. Scott.
The Madhatter
Hey thanks for ur help Scott, and my apologies for the delayed reply.
Jennings
Actually the "font" (which isn't what it is) used for the registration letters on Airbus products isn't the same as the post-war RAF/RN style lettering. Here's an example (both were done from their respective standard documents):
scotty100368
QANTAS doesn't necessarily follow that convention. See here: One or two letters are modified from the standard character set, but it is the one I use for the QANTAS & Jetstar decals I design for Hawkeye Models Australia. Scott.
