Studio 27 1/20 Ralt RT3

Recommended Posts

So I'm a bit late joining, and I forgot to take a number of pics of my early progress, but I'm building the Studio 27 1/20 Ralt RT3, as raced by Ayrton Senna in the 1983 British F3 championship. Progress so far...

Engine, gearbox and rear suspension has been built up;

Cockpit is built. I've used MFH fabric seatbelts instead of the supplied etched metal ones;

Wheels and tyres are ready. The kit doesn't supply any 'AVON' decals for the tyres, nor a paint mask, and I couldn't find any appropriate decals on the internet, so they will probably remain blank.

I used automotive primer on the body...

...followed by Zero Paints Pure Brilliant White, and the their Topcoat...

...and I've just finished with the decals. Even though it looks like a simple scheme, there were lots of variations for the logos on this car from race to race, so I picked the best pics I could find which displayed consistency and went with that.

It's taken a lot less time than I thought it would. I'd started in October, when the body was primed, but it's been sat for a while until last week when I had some time to really get into it. One of the good things about Zero Paints is they dry really quickly, so the basecoat went down on Friday, the topcoat on Saturday, and the decals on Sunday.
