Spook
Mr Hobby's acrylic gloss was airbrushed and then the excellent decals (decal sheet FTD 72005) from Fightertown were placed on the model. The instruction/placement guide form Fightertown provides all the details regarding 4 aircraft , VF-154 ordnance loadouts during the various stages of OIF while decals are provided for pilot helmets and the landing gear. Awesome!!! F-14 NF101 had quite a number of missions/bomb drops however as I decide to represent an aircraft during OIF these decals were not placed as they were painted on the real aircraft after their return to Japan. A couple more gloss coats (diluted) were airbrushed in order to prepare the surface for the following weathering stages using a mixture of black / burnt amber oils and black and grey pigments focusing more on the following areas: -Wings -Section between the tail fins -Cockpit -Engine -Decals The -A models have some characteristic streaks (rust?) on the engine area which were represented using yellow ochre oil The exhausts were painted using a mixture of Model Master Exhaust Metalizer with simple metallic Copper and Gold Model Master colors while in the end dry brush was performed using Brass from Gunze Sangyo's Mr Metal Color series. AIM-9 wings were painted using Model Master Titanium Metalizer. Decals from the spare box were used for the stencil data. GBU sensors were base painted with Vallejo Model Air 71078 Gold Yellow and then Tamiya Smoke and Mr Hobby Clear Orange were used. Wheels were painted with a lightened black Vallejo color and then were dry brushed using a dark grey to represent some weathering and dirt. Two light coats of enamel Marabu matt varnish sealed everything together. The pitots come from Master's set (AM-72-007). And one photo of the finished model: More photos can be found in the display case. Thank you all for your attention and interest!
