I.Martin
Hi all. I would like to know which variety of helicopters can carry a C-160 Transall in its cargo compartment, either French or German helicopters. Thank you for your help! I.Martin
Hajo L.
Hmm, never heard of that and have to say, I would be surprised if any helicopter would fit (except for an Alouette II). But I´ll better wait until the real experts step up here! ;) HAJO
Koen L
Here's a start: http://www.helicopassion.com/fr/02/alat19.htm#.Uva0QoWGd3c EDIT: And some more (note that's a German Transall transporting the French AF Fennec): http://eatc-mil.com/80/Return-Flight-to-Reunion I'm fairly sure I've seen images of French Army Gazelles being transported by Transalls as well but can't seem to find them right now. I.Martin I,ve yet to see any helicopter that could carry a Transall. Andrew
Jennings
I'm sure an Mi-26 could probably do it. :)

Hey Koen, thank you very much for the links. I saw the Fennec page but God, a Puma?? amazing!! Do you think that a german Tiger, EC-135 helicopter (to avoid tanker jokes) family or the UH-1D can fit inside the cargo bay? Thanks all. I.Martin
Koen L
If a Puma fits then I reckon those you mention should fit as well. Of course you're only going to find out if they ever tried it if you find some pics of it. ;)
I.Martin
Hi Koen, there is no greater truth than the one you have written but it's really hard to find pics. I saw Transalls carrying jet engines, pneumatic boats and different stuff but not helicopters or small planes, I guess a Magister or Alpha Jet can fit smoothly into the cargo bay. So I will use artistic license, that one that although there is no evidence, can be completely feasible. Thanks again, Koen I.Martin
Koen L
Just saw these on Facebook. The pics are taken in Djibouti, photocredit to EMA/armée de Terre.
Jennings
Just because you *can* wear skin tight camo shorts doesn't mean you *should* wear skin tight camo shorts guys. Just saying...
scvrobeson
Just because you *can* wear skin tight camo shorts doesn't mean you *should* wear skin tight camo shorts guys. Just saying... Maybe he grabbed the female tech's laundry instead of his own. All of that camo can get confusing in the dryers.

I.Martin
Gentlemen, thank you very much for your pics, they're wonderful!! I'm glad to see the Tiger helicopter, it is an excellent choice for a small vignette with both models. Thanks again. I.Martin

I.Martin
Some more, once again courtesy of the French MinDef. Wooow Koen, excellent pics!! I wonder how it can be possible, when I look at those pics, the scene of an anaconda eating a pig comes to my mind! Thanks! I.martin
Pierre Sacha
I think the SAAF also used to transport damaged and stripped Pumas in Transalls back in the eighties if I'm not mistaken. Pierre
Mistral
Remove rotor head and MGB and in goes the Puma
