1/32 Command Module

Recommended Posts

So I decided I want to do my first spacecraft model and was thinking about doing the Revell 1/32 Command Module. The Apollo program always impressed me. Are there any suggestions for extras needed to make it better. Or should I look at another kit for my first space model. Oh, I probably should add that I am going to build it all closed up and cover the clear piece.

Thanks, Richard

YES!!! and yes...and then no.

I've built this kit somewhat, meaning that I only used the capsule portion for a splashdown diorama and it's a nice kit. There are some parts available for improving it. Check out Real Space, for some resin goods like the interior and the hatch (if you want to open the hatch that is) and I think they also make a scientific bay for the service module. Also check out New Ware, I think they still have some parts for it.

IMHO it's a good first space model kit. A good size to be interesting and super-detail-able if desired, but also builds up nice OOB if that's how you want to do it.

Make sure you join in the NASA GB that starts in March. You'll get plenty of help and suggestions there. Or even just in the real space section if you don't want to join the GB.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi,

i'm working on this model right now,so what to say....it requires a lot of work if you want to make something really accurate respect to the real hardware. Niart has already given you good advices on some of the aftermarket parts you can use to improve it.

I also recommend you Mike Mackowski's SPace in miniature book about che APollo command module,it's a good reference for a lot of details.

Have fun with your build!

Matt
