Kawasaki P-1 Maritime Patrol Aircraft

Recommended Posts

Hi All

Does anyone know whether or not a model company is working on, or has issued a 1:144 or 1:72 scale model kit of the Kawasaki P-1 Japanese Maritime Patrol aircraft?

Fox one from Japan did one in 1/72 in resin. But it is no longer available, which is a shame because it looks amazing. IMO they would be the most likely to do one in 1/144. If hase does one i would expect it to be 1/200 as that seems to be their standard scale for large multi engines. Pics

I would like one in 72nd scale of even 48th scale, that and a P-8.

Contrails has a resin kit for a 1:200 P-8 Poseidon and they also do a conversion set for the Revell 1:144 Boeing 737:

I'd be keen for the Kawasaki P-1 kit to be in 1:72 scale because then it would be suitable to display with Hasegawa's 1:72 P-3 Orion and the Airfix 1:72 Nimrod. That would be a cool line up of Maritime patrol. That would be my line up anyway to go along with my two 1:72 E-3D and E-3F AWACS aircraft.

Agree with Scott, while the US, India and now, apparently, Australia went with a modified 737 airframe, Japan elected to go with a completely new, purpose-designed aircraft. I also wouldn't be surprised to see other variants come out in the future.

I also take the opportunity to remember two Japanese planes I would like to see both at 1/144 and/or 1/72 scales, the cargo planes Kawasaki C-1 and C-2.

Platz do a 1/144 C-1.

Also there is a 1/72 available if you have deep pockets!

Hello Julien. I know about both kits. Honestly, my expectations about the Platz kit were much higher but seeing the content, no fun with so few pieces!!

And speaking of NMC model, it often happens that after spending so much money, the experience has shown me that a while after buying the expensive resin kit, another manufacturer releases the same kit in plastic and cheaper, that's no fun :deadhorse1:/> So I've found in patience an excellent money saving factor.

Thanks and regards!

Believe it or not there are a few common parts between the P-1 and the C-2. Though it's even more of a 757/767 situation than Boeing had.

There's no obvious reason for a P-1 kit to be 1/200 or even 1/144. It's marginally smaller than a Nimrod, and that's not an unmanageable size in 1/72. In that scale I think I could all but guarantee them one sale.

2 weeks ago I received from HLJ my FoxOne 1/144 P-1 resin kit : undoubtedly the nicest 1/144 resin kit I have ever owned (and I own quite a few Authentic Airliners resin kits).

IMHO, the price asked is totally justified, the casting is splendid, the recessed details are petite and consistent, extended slats and flaps are included, even the flap tracks (and canoes but this is obvious) are provided, detail parts are phenomenal.

The decal sheet is laser printed and includes white pattern backings : this may be the cons with this kit but the rest is stellar.

Yes, I know about the Fox One 1/144 P-1 kit, but at that price, too dear for me.  I had one on back order from HLJ for 2 &1/2 years, and finally cancelled it.  Hoping for an injection molded kit soon.

Yup:

Dang, those Foxone kits look so good, esp the 1/72 one with the flaps & slats lowered....like it means business.  But at that price......I think I'll wait for Aoshima or someone else to make an injected molded one.

I think the size of the pilots windows is deceptive on the P-1. Without context the aircraft looks small because of the ratio of the window size to aircraft size. When side by side with other aircraft, you quickly realize that they are big!

Big windows make for a good visual surface search though, an advantage on a maritime patrol aircraft.

Stephan, Well, I finally took the plunge and reordered a Fox One Studios 1/144 Kawasaki P-1 from Hobby Link Japan (HLJ) and they had one in stock within a week at a more reasonable price than before.  Dunno if this is due to a better currency exchange rate or what, but I am happy.  It is due to arrive in about a fortnight.  Kind regards, Dutch
