As a side note, I visited Shipdam (sp?) back in '92, and a couple RAF guys were kind enough to guide us around. The showed us where they had done some runway repairs, and unearthed the original concrete where the initials of the workers was still there. They then took us to the old control tower, and on the stairwell was a large painting of the flying eightball.
