trumpy vs WPD T-38 comparison

Recommended Posts

there is no comparison because the trumpy kit is larger in all aspects. the trumpy kit has a wider wing span, fuselage is longer length wise, and the wings are just too large.

pictures speak for themselves.

Just by looking at the cutting mat lines. WPD wingspan seems to be almost spot on while Trump is 2/5 of an inch too wide.

Regardless of the dimensional differences, Trumpeter screwed the pooch on the canopy. The canopy sills on the fuselage are massively too curved.

trumpy on the right and WPD on the left.

I think you need to edit and reverse this line.

What about the wing span?which is correct? :blink:/>

"I check and measure the 3 top T-38 Kits and can confirm the WP T-38 is more accurate dimensionally than Trumpeter's.

The quoted length dimensions on Cybermodeler and a few other forums are wrong. I looked up the dimensions in the 1T-38A-2-1 TO and also verified the dimensions within 1/4" on the real jet.

Length: 530.32", Length "with Pitot": 556.32", Wingspan: 303.00", Stab span: 170", Height (tail to ground): 154.64", Height from top of boat tail to top of vertical tail: 85.2"

Actual T-38A length (no Pitot) is 530.32", which = 11.05” in 1/48th scale.

Here are the 3 T-38A kit length measurements:

Sword T-38A: 10.95” (525.6") WolfPack T-38A: 11.00” (528.00") Trumpeter T-38A: 11.375” (546.16")

WP's T-38A is the most accurate in length and Sword almost as good, though both are just a couple scale inches short; nothing noticeable. However, Trumpeter is over 15 scale inches too long.

Here are some other shape and detail inaccuracies of the Trumpeter T-38A:

The cockpit tub is too shallow and too narrow. This is probably why the ejection seats are so under scaled; at least 1/50th or smaller. Overall cockpit detail is a little better than WP though. I doubt any current aftermarket F-5/T-38 seat is going to fit the Trumpeter kit cockpit.

Trumpeter's main wheels are also too large in diameter. The kit main wheel assemblies (with tire) are the diameter of a LWG F-16 main wheel assembly. The nose wheel assembly is too large in diameter too, though not as bad as the mains. Trumpeter's T-38 wheel structures are quite inaccurate as well.

The side profile arch of the cockpit sill is exaggerated. The canopy also sits a bit low.

I did note that the scribing/surface detail was well done and more complete than WP's, but overall WP is the more accurate T-38A."
