Ciao,

In these last weeks have been working on a Mossie and now that it is finished I was looking back to these two 110s already long waiting on my shelves. . .

IMG-20131226-WA0000_zpsab06595d.jpg

. . . when suddenly I felt it was time to care about a Dragon 1/48 Ju 88 waiting there since more than four years. I was never happy with it, but now it looks much better to me and I think I can maybe address its shortcomings. What do you think, should I go or should I trash it?

You came too far (and with some great detail and paintwork) to give any of these kits up at this late stage...

Finish them off! - They may not look perfect to you but most onlookers would be impressed with the results! (Myself included)

Cheers,

David

Everyone start to chant, "Finish it, Finish it, Finish it, Finish it, Finish it, Finish it, Finish it, Finish it, Finish it, Finish it, Finish it, Finish it,..." :thumbsup:/>

What he said. That looks a whisker away from completion to me.

Why would you want to trash the Ju88? What about it bothers you? What I see is a rock solid build, with outstanding paint job & near perfect decaling. The issues that I see are the main wing roots, and the not so clear glass. Odds are that you don't have the same paint, so just live with the wing roots, they're really not that much of an issue as I had to really look to see that the putty has shrunk and wasn't sealed.

Well,

The reason why I put this, and few other models aside, is because four years ago I stopped modelling.

I am back since about only one year. I have to say that ARC Forums helped me a lot.

I love the possibility to look at somebody else work, to show mine, and to exchange views.

So, thank you very much for your comments. They keep me going.

Now, look to the next pictures. I toned down the crosses and cleaned the transparencies. Likely, they were just full of dust.

Paolo,

The glass looks so much better now. Please put the time and effort into finishing it. It's worth it. And I'm glad you came back to modeling. My hiatus was nearly 30 years. Talk about being rusty.

Ciao,

Not much work on my Ju 88 these days because I was busy at work and I am waiting for some aftermarket detail sets.

However, I am happy with the undercarriage legs. Same it is not true for the undersurfaces. The underside is far from being weathered the way I like.

In other words, there is still a lot of work to do. Take a look:

Wow, nice looking birds  ! We are all our own worst critics and it's easy to get disheartened or discouraged. But you have done a fantastic job. Please keep it up and keep us posted.

Cheers!

Joel,

You are definitely right. When I started modelling what is now available was not in my most crazy dreams.

The aftermarket that I was waiting for arrived this morning. New seats from CMK, belts form Eduard, and finally accurate spinners and propellers from Quickboost. Look:

I was not happy with the seats. So I went for a three steps solution:

First, snap them off:

IMG-20140331-WA0012_zps550e4175.jpg

IMG-20140331-WA0013_zps87dc29fd.jpg

Second, take advantage of these resin ones:

IMG-20140331-WA0004_zpse7178904.jpg

Third, mating them with some Gunze paint, oils and the excellent Eduard etched belts:

Much better now !

By tomorrow I will stick them at their place into the cockpit.

I do not understand why kit producers very often mishape spinners. See the difference, Quickboost on the right:

Same is true about the propellers. Quickboost in the second picture. Which one do you like the best?

Quickboost spinners are way better than the kit ones:

More from me very soon !

Paolo,

Those PE belts are truly amazing. They just keep on getting better and better. The stitching detail is some of the best I've seen yet. As for your spinner question, I have no idea. Just seems like laziness to me, or more likely they tried to save a few dollars by rushing through the design process.

The details in those new seats really POP to me, indeed an improvement over the kit seats. Also, what a difference in spinners between the kit supplied ones and the aftermarket copies. They will look just great when completed and attached. Good choices all around  ! Keep us posted please.

Cheers!

Don.

Ciao,

During these last few days I have been working mostly on the undersurfaces of my Ju 88.

Undercarriage doors are finally painted and set at theri place.

Given that I do not pre-shade my models I did my best to highlight the different areas of the wings, bomb racks, and engine/wheels nacelles:

Paolo,

The underside of the JU88 looks fantastic. The weathering really makes a huge difference. I'm not a fan of pre-shading either, but I've yet to reach the level you have with your weathering.

Well,

I had a free morning yesterday, so I have been working on my Ju 88 again. As you can see, resin undercarriage doors are a worth every penny:

IMG-20140408-WA0000_zps875cca94.jpg

Looking at the next three pictures I have to say that I was very happy with my Ju 88. I think I can post the first pic under the fair use. . .

10245244_296771217144363_746314797_o_zps8de85b6a.jpg

It needed some effort, but also the canopy finally set in place well:

10156374_297167453771406_487637452_o_zps11ba4e4a.jpg

And then ...

Some of you maybe remember, it was a couple of months ago, that I almost destroyed a 1/48 Defiant dropping on its wings a lot of thinner.

Look:

IMG-20140408-WA0001_zps38b5bd3f.jpg

IMG-20140409-WA0000_zps63e5ef5a.jpg

I did it again. . .

Paolo,

The greenhouse glass really fits well. I can't believe that you did it again with the thinner on the wing. And I thought that I had a lot of modeling accidents. Looking forward to pictures of the once again repainted right wing.
