I caught a little bit of F-4 action out at Rosey Roads PR in the late 80s...they sounded like someone dragging a steel table across the concrete when on approach. 11bee Posted April 2, 2014 Share Posted April 2, 2014 (edited) Not as glamorous as the other aircraft in this thread but I feel the same way about the 727. As a kid, I used to watch them taking off from BOS on hot, muggy summer days. It looked like they could barely get airborne, trailing black smoke as they passed overhead (loudly). Most were pretty dirty but for some reason, they always looked like elegant workhorses. It's just not the same watching those quiet, smokeless 737's and A320's taking off.
