Since this issue seems to come up frequently, I'm curious where ARC'ers get their news from. I'm a bit of a news junkie (both world news and military / aviation related). Always on the lookout for good sources for both. My list, in no particular order (and I'm sure I'm missing a few):

World News:

NY Times (online) - IMO, one of the best US sources for world news, they also had a great blog "At War". Well worth checking out this blog if you have a few hours to kill. Some very informative and occasionally poignant stories.

BBC World Report (National Public Radio)

BBC Nightly News (cable)

Google News (mandatory for anyone serious about the news, you can create custom fields, it does a great job of vacuuming up all the info on the net from both US and global sources)

http://www.foreignpolicy.com/

http://www.theatlantic.com/international

http://www.csmonitor.com/World

Al Jazeera America (cable) - AJ just made it to my cable network and I'm pretty impressed. A good source for hard news (no updates on Miley Cyrus, political spun rants or shouting talk show hosts). Not at all what I expected.

http://www.xinhuanet.com/english/ China's news agency. Another semi-surprise, I found it pretty decent, plus it does one some good to get news from a non-US perspective on occasion.

and lastly:

http://www.kcna.co.jp/index-e.htm Well worth a weekly visit, 'nuff said.

Aviation / Military:

Google News (see above) If you have an interest in any obscure subject, you can set up a custom category and GN will track down any/all applicable news.

http://www.flightglobal.com/news/military/

http://www.strategypage.com/ "Lite" news source but worth checking out once a week or so.

http://www.usni.org/

http://www.aviationweek.com/ I also subscribe to the weekly magazine. Not quite at the level it was a decade or so ago but useful nonetheless. Plus it has Bill Sweetman, who along with the T-37, will have an enduring place in aviation history.

http://foxtrotalpha.jalopnik.com/ Another "lite" source but on occasion, it has some interesting stuff.

I know I'm missing a bunch of sites for this category but the above are the only ones that immediately come to mind.

Two biggest Norwegian news papers and Al Jazeera. I dont have TV at the dorm, and i have never been exactly a dedicated TV watcher: but i stare like a zombie into Al Jazeera whenever i am home at my dads place. Quality channel and reporting.

I am also an avid watcher of The Daily Show/Colbert but those i use more as entertainment and springboard for checking out in detail whatever that i found interesting on the show.

I get all my news from the general discussion thread here. I abhor media outlets.

I also watch The Daily Show but this forum usually beats them to the scoop.

Reuters, AP and BBC more often than not for me. Our (American) major news outlets are garbage anymore.

I am also an avid watcher of The Daily Show/Colbert but those i use more as entertainment and springboard for checking out in detail whatever that i found interesting on the show.

this... FWIW, i think the detractors of Daily Show/Colbert look past the fact that it is entertainment first, but that it's not mindless entertainment. For my money Colbert and Stewart are entirely more beneficial to society than honey booboo or the duck hunter guys. But i won't be naive enough to think i'm doing any more than screaming at a brick wall by explaining that.

Drudge and Breitbart.com for national and world news. Same with Fox. Also, my local radio news/talk station (WTAQ) can't be beat. They run the gamut of local, state, national and world news. They're like my one-stop shop.

Whatever is on my laptop. I totally refuse to listen to NBC, ABC, CBS, NPR. I do

trust to a very limited amount Fox, but they are almost as one sided as the rest.---John

I also use multiple news sources. In fact, I'm a bit of a world news junkie. One thing that I also do, is when something is happening in a particular region: For example the situation recently in the Ukraine and Crimea - I try to also look for local news sources directly from that region, such as local newspapers, blogs by journalists and other individuals in the area, etc. In this particular case, being able to understand Russian has given me a lot of additional insight, but in most cases you will be surprised at the amount of English material you can get from countries where very few people speak English.

As for the bigger news outlets: I will even follow the ones that are considered biased, because very often they do accurately reflect the mood of certain segments of society, even when the facts get reported on very selectively in the process. It is just important to keep that in mind and balance what you read there with news from other sources also. News sources that I follow on an almost daily basis are (more or less in order of preference):

Jazeera

BBC

Russia Today

News24 (A South African news website - useful for news about things happening where I live)

CNN

Others that I will check out if I am interested in a particular story:

Reuters

Sky

Eyewitness News (Another South African site)

Fox

MSNBC

Another thing to remember is that news about a certain situation can be extremely confusing while it is happening. You often get much better insight through material and analysis published months or even years after the fact. For example, after the Georgian conflict, there were several EU fact finding missions that resulted in reports that directly contradicted what was being said in the majority of the news sources at the time. For the same reason, I also don't get too worked up about news while things are happening - it takes a lot of time for the real truth to emerge, so you may as well hold off with the emotions when you can't do anything about it anyway.
