Anyone Know if there is an issue at Leading Edge Models?

Hey all,

Before I start putting a post into the Bad Trader area I need to know if anyone can get a hold of Dave Koss at Leading Edge Models. I know it's a one man show Yadda Yadda Yadda..... and at this point I really don't care. I would much prefer to settle things and get what I paid for.

Before anyone jumps me I like his product he has always in the past delivered so this is kinda unusual and I would like to find out whats going on before I take the step of labeling him negatively.

Dave can be rather poor at responding to emails. I've bought directly from him and through eBay. He's often said to just email him with what I want and when I have, he's never responded, so I end up buying through eBay - which results in my receiving what I want in a relatively timely manner. Of course, Dave will then send the reminder to buy / order direct so he can avoid the eBay and PayPal fees, which I understand and generally have no issues with doing, problem is, he never responds to my requests. I waited for him, I'd have missed out on a few of his newer sheets, so I go through eBay, which always gives the buyer a good degree of protection, no matter who he is dealing with.

Not sure how long you've been waiting since sending payment, but if you used PayPal or a credit card, I'd open a claim in the mean time as you only have so long to do so. I am not saying that Dave will not make good, but you do need to look after your own interests first.

I do not have any personal gripes with Dave, I think he is an ok guy. That doesn't make it acceptable to be keeping people waiting for product and not responding to emails. Those are bad business practices and can lead to problems.

I am sure all will work out for you.

Very unfortunate to have to go through a third party seller just to get service...... when he could avoid paying fees and sell direct through his website and save a higher percentage to his pocket.

I am getting pretty annoyed, inattention is poor business practice..... regardless of the amount I have spent. I think I have directly and indirectly paid him handsomely for some great product over the years. It is unfortunate.

I feel for you, Emvar. My experience with him has been hit or miss over the years. Sometimes, he astounds me with his service, and other times I get a resounding flat-line when trying to buy something.

Other Canadian producers, like Canuck Models, Belcher Bits, and Canmilair, are outstanding in terms of their responsiveness and prompt delivery. It's unfortunate that Leading Edge, with their wonderful selection of subjects, is not the same.

I agree with you there, Canuck/Belcher Bits/CanMilAir have been nothing but great service. At least an acknowledgement and an Update is all I need from him.

Add another vote to the hit / miss hit parade. In the past, I've had great service from David. I sent him an e-mail a while ago (over 6 months) asking about a particular subject. I have yet to receive a reply. I'm not sure what to think but as everyone else says, communication is the key.

Hope you get things ironed out, one way or another, in short order.

Well I have given ample time through various channels and still no communication from Dave Koss..... so I promised myself that I wouldn't do this before my next days off (which begins on Tuesday May 27th in the morning) I will be putting Leading Edge models in the Bad Trader forum. Really hate to do that as the Quality of his subjects are top notch. But as of yet Communication is severely lacking.

I have noticed that what I ordered has since been taken down at the website and a simple hey I am out of stock or even I have some coming in 6 weeks can you wait would have been enough. But not a peep as of yet.

I am very annoyed and still out money.

I agree his communications has been spotty, but I ordered several of the sets on the evil bay site and they arrived in reasonable time.

Do you know anybody in the Calgary area who can talk to him directly??

Hey getting older I get. I resemble that. It is the responses or lack there of. That really p!S's me off. If he is selling on ebay then why sell direct from his site. Unfortunately I know no one in Calgary that can help.

I can however bring attention to his inattention in a negative way, however I really would like to avoid that.

I think Colin Kunkel has some good line of communications with him. Same experience here with Dave, spotty comms at best, I only order thru Ebay now, better, faster service and more protection for me if deal goes sour. You would think that with the new quality competition (Canuck) that it would give a kick in the *** to Leading Edge...

I know David, I hear he is going through something at the moment.

Still isn't a valid excuse though.

Dave keeps a relatively low profile locally. I haven't seen him around town in years - not at the local shows, certainly not at the local clubs... The few times I've bumped in to him, it's been at one of the shops when he's dropping off product. He seems to have stopped doing that however, meaning sightings are even rarer.

Frankly, I'm not even sure who - locally - would be in regular contact. He used to be a semi-regular at one shop, but I'd heard a few years ago there was a falling out, and the proprietor has health issues so I wouldn't advise bugging him anyway.

(I'll also note: it's interesting that the people who seem to have the best line on him, don't live in the same city. That seems somehow fitting for the dysfunctional Calgary modelling scene)

I was able to get a message through to Dave, but even my email comms are spotty, but that's because of stuff on my end. Just hoping that a resolution can be found to the situation.

Really do appreciate you stepping up and the effort when you didn't have to.

Everyone Thanks for looking into it or the responses!!

We will see if he does respond or not as to what my actions will be tomorrow. For the record this is over $17 in product, but that is out of my model budget and the chief accountant has to be faced. I am more afraid of her than the Grim Reaper or even LEM...... LMAO. and it's not about affordability on my part. It is accountability on his.

I'm sure you thought of this already, but if you paid via credit card or Paypal, you can lodge a complaint and get your money back. I've done this successfully 3 times and it wasn't much trouble at all. Also, the ultimate "Bad Trader" pay back is to go through these channels, because if the vendor has a lot of complaints and can't use these payment services in the future, they're toast on the internet. This isn't mean, it's just business. You should get what you pay for, no matter what the circumstances are.

OK folks,

Paypal resolution has come through..... I thought I was beyond it. I have gotten my money back.

Unfortunately Mr. Koss was not man enough to communicate directly with me which would have avoided this whole situation. I have retracted the theft part of my statement. However I will keep the bad trader up to reflect his business practices.

It really saddens me when it comes to this..... all he needed to say was 'hey sorry but I have none left' or 'can you wait a bit and I'll have some more'.

Just a cuff to the back of the head.

You know I really hate it when you warn some one you will do something...... and they don't care to stop it from saving their reputation.

Well I got my masking sets and a refund, so I will retract the Bad Trader from ARC. However this thread will not be retracted. I will not apologize for my actions as I did call him out and he did not respond.

I will also state that the quality of his product has never been in question, it has been his behavior.

Thanks those that helped...... Colin and Mike really appreciate what you all have done.

You did everything right, buddy. It's unfortunate to have to go to such extremes to get satisfaction, and for that the Bad Trader and PayPal actions were justified.

Not too long ago, on Facebook, I had a bit of a disagreement with a distant relative (actually, a cousin of my wife). I was not happy with something she posted on one of my threads. I started out nice, then when things degenerated I warned her once... and then she did it again and I followed through with my warning. Unfriended and blocked. No regrets, and other family members who saw it all agreed with the steps I took.

In your case with LEM, as Chuck said, it's business, not personal. You paid for goods in good faith, and the seller did not follow through, and in fact was totally uncommunicative. That, to me, is grounds to do exactly what you did.

Don't beat yourself up about it, and you don't have to justify your actions. You did the right thing.

I'm glad to hear that Dave has chosen to uphold his end of the transaction.
