Caerbannog
Hi, does anybody know what the round logo on the speed record braking vertical stabilizer is? Was this logo used anywhere else or is it a special logo on this record aircraft? Or has there ever been a decal sheet for this plane? Thanks, Rene
Grey Ghost 531
There's several pictures in the Ginter book. They're small and not super high res. but it looks to me like the globe from the Douglas logo with a plan-form silhouette of a Skyray on an "orbit" path, all placed on a dark circle. There's a block shape on the lower right that looks as if it has some text on it. It's also on other pictures taken during carrier suitability trials and other contractor flight tests. There are also shots that have the same logo without the circle from other flight test aircraft, so, I can't see exactly what it looks like, but it wasn't just on the speed record flights. I'm guessing a Douglass applied emblem for the whole flight test program. Edited June 5, 2014 by Grey Ghost
Tailspin Turtle
The Skyray is really South America... This is one version in color but the surround doesn't match the one on the XF4D tail
Grey Ghost 531
Ha! that's too funny. I said the images I was looking at were small and not high res. It's weird how you can see things that aren't there when the image is poor.
