pelops44
Fellow modellers hi!! Once again I need your expertise on a AV-8B Harrier issue. Can the AV-8B of the USMC, carry the AIM-120 Amraam missile, like the Spanish and Italian version ?
gonzalo
Here is a link to a picture of a Harrier with practice AMRAAMS

LanceB
A note to anyone wanting to model this: notice that there is an adapter between the AMRAAM rail and the intermediate pylon. The outer pylons are designed to fit either a bomb rack or allow direct mounting of a sidewinder rail - if you look closely at Finn's pic you will notice that there are no sway braces visible on the outboard pylon facing the camera, this is because the bomb rack is not fitted. The intermediate pylon is not so set up - while the rack is removable from the pylon for maintenance (obviously), the pylon was never designed to fit a launch rail directly. It was always capable of mounting a Sidewinder, but you needed the adapter (as included in the Hasegawa A-4 kits, for example) to mount the missile launch rail to the bomb rack. The inboard pylons are not, AFAIK, A/A capable. Only stations 1,2,6 and 7 for a maximum of four A/A missiles, either four Sidewinders or two Sidewinders (Sta. 1 and 7) and two AMRAAMs (Sta. 2 and 6). ChippyWho
IIRC, some Hasegawa 1/48 AV-8B issues include AIM-120 adaptors as additional white metal parts (the 'Italian Navy' boxing, for example). Would these be the same type as used on USMC aircraft?
