Aaronw
Ok, finally getting a start here. Will be building the Sikorsky SH-3 "66" used to recover the Apollo 11 capsule following the first moon landing. I will be using the 1/72 Testors (Fujimi) SH-3H kit, which also includes the option to build the earlier SH-3D. Using the Apollo Decals for "Old 66" which includes 4 options to represent the helicopter during Apollo 8, Apollo 10, Apollo 11 and Apollo 12.
crackerjazz
Excellent subject! Looking forward to your build!
niart17
This is going to be great! Are you doing it as a stand alone model or will you be showing anything such as astronauts de-boarding or in a dio? looking forward to seeing your progress. Bill
Aaronw
I'm just building it by itself. I would love to do a diorama of it recovering the astronauts, but that is well outside of my current skills.
Aaronw
Got some work done. Based on the decal instructions "66" was a standard ASW SH-3 with only the dipping sonar temporarily removed. The kit doesn't allow for that option so I had to trim the sonar well so that it would fit within the hull with the plug in place.
