vince14
I'm starting off by building the Wingnut Wings 1/32 Fokker E.III (Late). Here's the contents of the box.. And a few extras I'll be adding along the way - HGW Detail Set, Taurus Models Oberursel UI resin engine, Master Models Spandau LMG 08/15 (although my research now indicates this is wrong for the E.III) and Aviattic engine cowl. I'm also waiting for a prop from Doug Craner, and a set of spoked wheels from UMM-USA. Vince
ALF18
Holy moley, Batman! That's some serious stuff. Those Wingnut kits are so complete, this one will be even more awesome with all the AM you're adding. Enjoy! ALF
WymanV
Is there an issue with the kit cowl? I'm not up to speed on accuracy issues with WNW kits. Ken
vince14
Is there an issue with the kit cowl? I'm not up to speed on accuracy issues with WNW kits. Ken There's nothing wrong with the kit cowl per se, but if you're using the Taurus Model engine then you need a replacement as it won't fit underneath the kit cowl. Due to the limitations of injection molding, WNW couldn't get the cowl thin enough to accommodate a correctly sized engine so the kit engine is slightly undersized. I'll post pics soon to show what I mean! Vince
WymanV
Makes perfect sense to me :thumbsup:/> Ken
vince14
I'll start with the Taurus Model engine... some parts are really, really tiny... Vince
Spectre711
That looks like some really nice stuff there Vince. Even at that scale it looks a bit intricate for my fat fingers.
Aaronw
I think you have more parts in that engine, than I have in my whole kit! I hear nothing but good things about Wingnut kits, this should be good to watch.
vince14
OK, so I've managed to get the engine almost complete. I have to admit there were areas that defeated me - some of the parts were just too small. Here's a comparison with the kit engine - note how much larger the Taurus Model engine is. All that's left to do is to tie off the fine copper wire around the sparkplugs. Vince
mingwin
it looks amazing! even if it might miss some tiny tiny nearly invisible pieces... hard to believe that this engine is only (something like) one inch wide!
WymanV
C'mon...that's a REAL motor :coolio:/> Ken
FluffyK
Looks great, Vince.
Spectre711
Any more progress on this one Vince?
vince14
Sadly very little. We've had some flooding/damp issues in the house and it's currently filled with builders replacing all the wooden ground floors with concrete! Vince
Spectre711
Sorry to here that Vince! About the house that is. Edited August 28, 2014 by Spectre711
vince14
I've managed to find a little time to work on the E.III, despite the house being filled with builders and concrete dust! Here's my attempt at the Fokker 'turned' metal finish. I airbrushed the parts Tamiya XF-16, then hand painted the 'swirls' using Citadel 'Chainmail', then gave it a light overspray with XF-16. Spectre711
Was wondering if you made anymore progress on this one. I hit a period where I was very busy at work and things at home but started back up again. Now I'm a bit dead in the water till I get the hang of this dual action airbrush.
