Here's my oldest 'survivor'. I have a few older builds that aren't in such good shape.

Back in the Win95 days I used to play a PC game called Red Baron. You can play the German campaign to a point where they deem you worthy to paint your plane in different schemes. The one I opted for when I got the Fokker D.VII was a red & white scheme. It really popped out on the screen and it inspired me to do the colors on an old Monogram 1/48 D.VII. I used some of the kit decals which were horribly yellowed, but since it was strictly for fun I didn't care. I think the red was an old jar of Pactra Flat Red and of course, white.

I rather miss playing that game.

I loved playing Red Baron as well - pretty sure my Fokker ended up in a similar scheme to yours too!

There are a couple of modern WWI flight sims around - Rise of Flight and Wings: Over Flanders Fields that are worth looking into. RoF is the most modern and better looking, but most of the content is additional 'payware' and the built in career is not up to much. W:OFF is more like the old Red Baron, although it's based on much older technology than RoF and doesn't look as good.

I have an old tower with Win95 on it that I want to resurrect one day, just so I can play those old games again ;)/>

This is my first "serious" WW I build, from some 6-7 years ago. Eduard's 1/48 Albatros C.III. Old Eduard kits are no better than old Classic Airframes kits so I picked a winner to get back into the era with. The brass cockpit didn't fit and the insides had to be sanded down paper thin. But it was my first experience with wood grain work and my first foray into rigging and in the end, I enjoyed both, as well as liking how it turned out:

Contrary to appearances, it dissolved my reservations about rigging. Much easier than I thought it would be.

A trio of Triplanes, Revell DR1, Eduard DR1 and Roden F1. Red is Revell (Manfred von Richthofen), Yellow is Eduard (Lothar von Richtofen), the third is Roden (Werner Voss). Yes, two are still waiting for their rigging.

It was actually a challenge to get the olive streaking to show through the yellow. Quite a lot of debate about the upper wing of Lothar's triplane (yellow or olive). I prefer the yellow, but in most photos you can clearly see the streaking, so I was going for the middle ground, thin yellow paint that didn't fully cover the darker color.

I'd love it if someone released a 1/48 scale R.E. 8. Such an iconic WW I plane.

My second "serious" WW I build was DML's Fokker Dr.I in the Josef Jacobs markings. Easy little build with what little rigging there is provided in stainless wire. All markings are painted except his personal 'mural'. Jacobs would flee Germany in 1938 to avoid serving in Goring's Luftwaffe:

And compared to Eduard's Albatros D.III:

Love the markings on the Fokker, don't know of that for 1/72 but I'd love to add it to the collection. The CIII is neat too, not a lot of 2 seaters available in 1/72 for some odd reason. I would think the smaller scale would bring out more, not less.

Roden Albatros D.III Oeffag S253, an Austrian built version of the Albatros.

Revell DH-2, let me say this is a terrible plane to introduce yourself to WW1 aircraft with. I think to do it right you really need at least 4 hands. I'm still traumatized 7 years later and have not been able to face rigging this one. Someday...

Aeroclub did release a 1/48 RE.8 a few years ago, although it's now out of production. They occasionally pop up on Ebay.

Here's a few of mine - all 1/48 from a number of years ago.

Eduard Fokker D.VII, finished as Hermann Göring's aircraft.

Here's an oddball I found in my favorite hobby shop in Fond du Lac Wisconsin-a TOM Modellbau 1/35 French Schneider 75, This is the French 75 that wreaked so much havoc on the German trenches in WWI:

Later versions had a split trail so they could elevate the gun barrel higher.

And another for your amusement. Emhar's 1/35 Mark IV Female. I saved myself some issues with the tracks by gluing them directly to the kit with windshield urethane. They're NOT coming off:
