rustywelder
Is the museum at PAX river worth driving down from Baltimore to check out? The website isn't the greatest so I was hopping someone who has actually been there could offer their opinion. Cheers.
Joe Hegedus
It's not bad, but they're currently in the midst of building a new facility at the same location. It's supposed to open late this year, so you may want to consider that before making the trek. They have a bunch of airplanes, all but one of which are outside in the weather. Something to do with the agreement between the Navy and the museum, which is not located on actual base property but on an adjacent plot of land that I think the county owns. The airplanes have to stay on Navy property. The exception is a replica Curtiss which is inside, and will be inside, and the X-47A mock-up. Neither of these are Navy property, ergo they don't have the "must stay on Navy ground" restriction. Making it a combined trip and also visiting the Calvert Marine Museum in Solomons wouldn't be a bad idea, either. You go right past there to get to Pax from Baltimore. ScotVA36
I was stationed at Strike (attack shop, A-6's) in the mid 90's and I went over to the aircraft displays once which was ok, just have to beware of the "Smibs and Smurfs" Pax was one of my better duty stations. Neeko
I live out there and even had my Navy retirement ceremony at the museum a couple years ago. You'd be hard pressed to see a lineup of static birds anywhere else that contains an X-32, RA-5C, and F4D... Their archive room is quite impressive from what I've seen as well. It's not huge like Udvar-Hazy, but it is a nice place all the same. Like Joe wrote, it's a little messy out front right now, but still worth the trek down from Baltimore, IMHO. rustywelder
Thanks Fellas. I'll have to run down that way one of these weekends.
eraucubsfan
Live and work in the area too. I agree with the comments above. The X-32, RA-5 and f4D and few others make it worth it. The inside has a lot of information and some neat displays. The have a T-45 Cockpit you can sit in.

A good assumption is that the bird will be rehabbed to some extent prior to its relocation. Glad you liked the museum!
