marvin20
Here is the kit that I'm building in NASA markings. And the markings that will go on it. A few progress shots, got the cockpit assembled and the fuselage halves glued together. One thing to note, the exhaust pipe has an extension piece that goes on the end, and mates up with the aft section of the fuselage, it only fits one way, but can be glued on either way, the wrong way will not align the pieces, but they will be skewed by about 15 degrees. My suggestion is to tape the fuselage halves together and test fit this piece, and then mark the proper orientation before gluing things together. Wings glued together Wing roots look like they will need a bit of work. That's it for now. Hope to post more photos this weekend.
Tom G
Off to a good start! Thanks for the tip on the exhaust pipe. That's an interesting paint scheme. Can't wait to see more. Have fun with the build. Tom

Got the fuselage and wings glued on, seams filled and sanded, and the model primed Some close up photos of the intakes The wheel wells painted Some of the smaller pieces painted the interior green color Here are the landing gear assemblies, cleaned up and ready to be painted The canopy and windscreen have been dipped in Future and dried, now ready to be masked. Hope to get that done later today, then mask the wheel wells and prep the model to get the first coat of the primary color on it.

The first couple of photos show the masking that had to be done in preparation for painting After painting but before the masking has been removed After the masking has been removed
Amen
Almost perfect Marvin, one correction on the nose marking is needed. Difficult color the aluminum from main body. As i see from pictures it was a very dull color ,in some angles it looks like grey! So you could add a satin to flat varnish at the end. source of photos: http://replicainscale.blogspot.gr/2011_05_01_archive.html Edited August 17, 2014 by Amen

I struggled with how I could dull down the air-frame aluminum, as the aircraft was painted silver. You're right, in many photos the plane looks like it is painted grey when viewed from different angles. Just like the strakes on the wings, in the one photo you posted they don't look like they're painted, and in the second photo of the same aircraft they're painted red. Oh boy! So there is photographic proof that it can be built both ways, with or without the red strakes.
Amen
You are welcome. The shadow on the 1st photo may trick the eye. Some red paint would be nice there. Edited August 17, 2014 by Amen
