Not sure what you were trying to do but if you'd put the above link into the image box that results from clicking the image icon above the compose panel ( 2 to the right of the smiley icon) you'd have got this. :)

Another way around this is to type/tap in the codes around your image link. If you put (img) before the image link & (/img) after the image link, with no gaps, then you'll get exactly what I got above, just be sure to use square brackets, I had to use normal brackets or it wouldn't display the img bits.
