Craig Maternowski
Hello all, I am working on Italeri's Junkers Ju-86D-1 in the three-tone Spanish "Condor Legion" colors. I was considering the topside to be RLM 63 Lichtgrau, RLM 80 Olivgrun, and RLM 79 Sandgelb with the underside being RLM 65 Lichtblau. Are these colors correct or at least close enough? I'm thinking that the RLM 79 isn't dark enough. Your thoughts please. Thank you. Craig
G.R.Morrison
The Ju 86 was the first with the Luftwaffe's 'new' splinter (ground camouflage) scheme. The colors were RLM 61 (a dark brown), 62 (green) and 63 (gray-green), with the undersides RLM 65 (light blue). Only four of the Ju 86D were sent to Spain, where they served with the VB/88 "Legion Condor" only briefly in 1937 before being handed over to the Nationalists. Their fuselage codes were "26" on one side of the black disc, and 1 through 4 on the other side. The unreliable Jumo 205C motors resulted, in Spain and Germany, in forced landings. Good luck with your build, I find those 'homely' types eye-catching, GRM
