Paolo Portuesi
Paolo, My error. But the fact that the painting and decaling look exactly the same, is just that much more impressive. As for the canopy, most of us go for the open position, if there is enough detail and interest to warrant it. In the case of the P-38, the canopy glass opens with two different panels, so I vote for open. Joel Error? No, a good catch ! -----------------------> OK. Open canopy: I have to say that so far I am very happy with my Lightning!
Joel_W
Paolo, And I have to agree with you. I'm looking forward to starting my in a few months or so. This will be my 1st build with AM parts including a full cockpit. That's something I never thought I would ever do. Joel
Par429
Hey- Looks really great. Excellent work! My dissenting opinion would be to build it with the canopy closed. Even though you've done a great job on the interior and it deserves to be shown off, IMO the P-38 is a beautiful aircraft, and keeping the canopy closed preserves the lines of the design. But either way, great job so far! Phil

Paolo Portuesi
I started my P-38 build as a relaxing break from a very demanding Airfix 1/24: Going back to the P-38, how can I resist some gorgeous Ultracast wheels and spinners and thin propellers like the ones released by Quickboost ? Here is how the wheels look dressed up with some paint: An this is her, on her legs: Once in a while I think I am getting too old for this hobby. So, what do you think? Is it time for me to leave this hobby ? Forever ? Edited October 8, 2014 by Paolo Portuesi
Joel_W
Paolo, The P-38J really looks fantastic, as does those Ultracast wheels. I have the same ones but with the diamond pattern. I also decided to buy my very 1st Resin cockpit, so I purchased the Legend cockpit. Looks great. How can you even think that you're getting to old to model. I'm 67, and doing my best work. I work slower, and can stay focused for longer periods of time. I get more satisfaction out of modeling now then ever before. I don't plan on stopping any time soon. chukw
Your skills are most impressive Paolo- and your P-38 is a perfect reflection of your ability. As for that Typhoon- wow!

thegoodsgt
Excellent work! It's good to see someone using old school artist oils rather than off-the-shelf filters. Steven Brown Scale Model Soup
Paolo Portuesi
My progress follows. Undercarriage doors up in place. This build is going to be over soon. Guess what I am going to build after? Going to be Hasegawa, and 1/32... Edited October 12, 2014 by Paolo Portuesi
Joel_W
Paolo, the P-38 is really coming together now. I keep on looking at your weathering over the NMF, and it's just perfect. Looks as real as the real deal can get. That's how impressed I am with your technique and it's out come. Well done my friend, well done. As for your next build, I'm taking a wild guess, and going with the Tamiya 1/32 P-51D over their F4U-1 just because you're into NMFs. Joel_W
Paolo, Your P-38 is really a L not any of the 3 J versions you can make easily enough from the boxing. The L is what the Trumpeter 1/32 scale kit is, and the Academy kit is a exact scaled down version to 1/48 scale. So I'm just calling my build a L. I'm in awe of just how well your build came out. Just an outstanding NMF, with near perfect weathering. Mine should only be that half that good. Joel
