soulfreak
Hello all. I´m working on a F-100 project. During my research i came over some pictures of some F-100s which look like they were painted in ADC grey USAF RDAF Had F-100s wear the ADC grey scheme? Or do the pics only look like? Always thought the hun did only wear natural metal & the SEA/SWA Camo. Thanks in advance, Carlo
Airfixer
Hi Carlo, As to photo #1 and #3 It's safe to say they wore a "silver" topcoat. I've seen other pictures of 56-3410 (48th TFW) from the same period, furnishing evidence of an "aluminised" coating. The same for Danish Huns. Given the poor quality of photo #2, it's really hard to tell. However, from my guts I'd say "silver" topcoat. A silver/aluminised topcoat had been introduced during the early 1960s, the latter being generally superseded by SEA camo beginning from 1966/1967. The good news: Yes, some F-100 effectively wore ADC Grey. Among those a handful of New Mexico ANG F-100C/F. 53-1718: http://img.photobuck...718188thTFS.jpg, http://www.f-100.org...00c_31718-2.jpg 54-1873: http://i102.photobuc...zpsd5681788.jpg 54-1879: http://img.photobuck...879188thTFS.jpg The Air Force Systems Command at Eglin AFB, FLA also had a few D and F models in ADC Grey. Not knowing the exact figures of F-100 on strength, though... 53-3889: http://4.bp.blogspot...2C+Jus+Rose.jpg 55-3681: http://users.vermont...100D_553681.jpg F-100F, GA ANG, 56-3891: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v20/jinxx1/F-100/F-100F56-3891188thTFS.jpg There were certainly more ADC Grey Huns around, maybe another fellow from ARC will be able to shed some more light on this subject. dmk0210
Interesting. Is it just me, or does the shape of the Hun just not look as good as the other ADC gray Century birds (and the Phantom)? I think it's that chunky body and blunt nose.
phantom
Nothing looks as good as the Phantom........just saying.
Frank99
Here's an F-100C, formerly on a pylon at the entrance to an Air Force base, being torn down for corrosion inspection and during its restoration to static display at the Valiant Air Command in Titusville, FL. http://vintagetin.net/F-100C/
