1/72 Aggressive Skyhawk

Recommended Posts

Hi Csaba,

I recently built some Skyhawk infrastructure with the Brazilian sheets; and I am looking at some Skyhawk projects in all three scales. A 1/72 aggressor A-4 sheet is a very good idea, any subject suggestions and reference materials would be much appreciated.

Normally I would avoid digging up a decade-old thread, but since there was already a request - and 10 years hasn't seen any new, competitors' products, I just wanted to refresh the request for what seems like a highly popular yet underserved subject.

Over on Britmodeller there's a recent thread discussing USN jets, particularly Topgun subjects, that noted the only currently available Adversary Skyhawk decals are from kits (Fujimi and the Italeri Tomcat/Skyhawk 2-pack). They've been pretty heavily covered by the 1:48 crowd, but since Superscale discontinued most of their line I don't believe anyone has stepped up to fill what seems like a significant gap.

There are enough Skyhawk subjects, and most actual Adversary markings were so limited, that the sheet could cover other Skyhawk operators as well, if that helps marketability and/or research.  Not sure what (aside from @KursadA having limited time and resources) may be the hold on seeing this happen sooner, but I hope sales of the upcoming scaledown of the 2-seater Skyhawk sheet might encourage a corresponding set for the single-seaters.

I am willing to do it but quite honestly researching and compiling accurate and complete camouflage schemes and colors is back-breaking work. The problem is not money - I have the printing budget for these. The issue is that I can easily design four F-16 and F-4 sheets in the time it takes to design an aggressor sheet. Help me out with the research, send me a full dossier and I will do it as soon as possible. Any takers??

I e-mailed some folks with pleas for help, ordered the relevant Kinzey books, and we'll see what transpires. In the meantime, please let me know if there is a good, solid reference source for any of these subjects.

Not sure if you need primary sources or what the protocol is for building on research published by others, but Dave Aungst did an excellent series of build articles for 1:48 Adversary Skyhawks that's available on Hyperscale.  Several of the subjects were covered in 1:72 by Micro/Superscale and one A-4M by Wolfpak (RIP), but none currently available.

I have several of the books listed in the first link and would be happy to assist further as my own time allows.
