Olivier 40
Hi all, I am a French modeller and after my F-8P(FN) Crusader at 1/32 here's my new project. Here is the mounting of my conversion of Westland WG13 Lynx Mk4 (French Navy) 1/32. The model requires a lot of work if we want to obtain a WG13 Westland Lynx Mk4(FN) 1/32, more than suitable to this scale. You need to try to achieve, in addition to all major changes inside and outside, all the rivets in relief, because, at this scale, it does not go unnoticed. This is not an easy task given the number of rivets on the whole range of the Lynx, and it will be a first for me. Before beginning this adventure, I needed a good documentation to know what I was talking about. To do this, I could count on friends, whom I thank very much for their valuable assistance in this project. Thanks to the doc that they have given me, I was able to attach the decoration that will be my Mk4 Lynx and its configuration. This will be the Westland Lynx Mk4 WG13: N ° 274 (Zmoi 2008/2009) Flottille 31F Jean de Vienne Here are some pictures: Photo credits: Christophe Dzubanowski To begin, here is a list of (interior and exterior) issues which have been modified or created compared with the Lynx Mk3 of Revell. Some items were created and others in scratch. Here is the list of the parts of the conversion: -Antenna VHF-FM -V-UHF antenna -IFF antenna -Antenna VHF + ETBF -Position UHF -Doppler -Receiver OTPI -Boxes D/G -Complete winch -Shears -Fire extinguisher -Box pharmacy -dashboard - lure-laucher -Sponsons D/G -Supports torpedo D/G -Frame gun AA-52 -Horizontal plane retouched -Nose (retouched) -New cargo left and right door -Engine covers For now, I will not process the radar and sonar of the Mk4 position because there are enough work with the rest. We'll see later. Here, now, place to photos: An overview of the project: The left and right sponsons in scratch The reworked nose. Olivier
Olivier 40
Now, here are the realized items with 3D files and made in resin. They will fit on the Revell model parts: Complete scoreboard, box pharmacy, shears and fire extinguisher. lure-laucher The complete winch. Media - lance torpedoes. All antennas, doppler and receiver... And finally the support and its gun AA-52. I found that the items made in scratch, lacked realism. So, I decided to modify these items before molding, adding rivets embossed. The whole model will benefit from this method of rivets in decal. Here is the reworked parts. Olivier 40
-It begins with the nose: I reworked it to give, to my mind, its shape so special : the grate, I prefer finally that of the Board Eduard. Olivier
Olivier 40
You can see the positioning of the receiver OTPI The pictures of the machine to compare... Olivier
Olivier 40
-The sponsons: I added locations for medium throw- snares, throw- snares, and throw-snares catch. I also modified the right cover which has no pressure gauge. The pictures of the machine to compare... Olivier
Olivier 40
-Engine covers: The pictures of the machine to compare. Olivier
Olivier 40
-the horizontal plane AR. The pictures of the machine to compare... Finally, I enhanced the cargo doors photodec Eduard, inside. Before sending the items in order to be molded, it seemed that I had forgotten some changes on certain parts. I finally decided change the outside of the two cargo doors and embellish with rivets. I also made so that the left cargo door looks like the right one. I think that the upgrade will have been beneficial. I also changed «the oil cooler air inlet vent» located front engine covers and 'hinged lid', who is on the fairings of nozzles. Revell item of the cover has, for me, a big problem of form of adjustment with the Beam, as you can see on the pictures of the machine. So, I decided to do it again. Now, let’s give way to photos. First small facelift on the D/G cargo doors. Olivier
Olivier 40
The oil cooler air inlet duct which needed be changed. As you can see the revel item looks like not at all the true machine. After modification Olivier
VG 33
What a fantastic job you have made on this kit so far ! I'm going to follow through the end. Patrick
Olivier 40
Now parts took the direction of the workshop of moulding and this is the result. There are still a few flaws but overall everything is well usable especially with all these embossed rivets. I did so that the nose is adjustable with a minimum of cutting resin. But this item causes me the most worries with moulding. I decided to modify the beam of the Revell Lynx. The tail of the Lynx Mk 4 is very special and very different from this one of the base Revell Mk3. One might even say that every beam of Mk4 is unique because there is none identical. Let see the achievement of the changes on the beam. The beam of the Mk4 has a special assemblage at the level of the sheets steel on the horizontal plane. These sheets steel are in thickness one over the other, and the inverse of one side over the other. It is not easy to explain, nothing beats a few pictures to understand. Olivier 40
That is what must look like my Lynx Mk4 beam. Olivier
Olivier 40
Now my beam is ready for the long installation of rivets. Being only an average designer, forgive me, if I forgot some rivets... I used the Archer rivets and the Micromark in order to have different thicknesses. I preferred to use softener Mark Softer instead of micro sol. Olivier

Olivier 40
Finally, I'll mold again this beam that will be in two parts. To be "moldable", I therefore simplified the system of folding at least simple. I also inverted the fastening system between the beam and the aft fuselage of the Lynx. I also represented the locations of the various antennas under the beam, as you can see on the pictures. Olivier
Olivier 40
Now here's the complete beam casting. The aim was to achieve a molding without too much failure but especially to keep the definition of rivets. Now, I'm not a professional, so I request a bit of indulgence, and for my level English too... Let’s look at photos. You can see the picture resolution of the rivets. olivier

HeavyArty
Very nice. It all looks great. The conversion parts are especially nice. Do you plan on selling them? Also, any plans for a conversion set to make a British Army Lynx? Edited October 3, 2014 by HeavyArty

Youngtiger1
Just saw this thread and that's some great work. The raised rivets look totally cool ;)/> Btw, since you mentioned in your earlier post that you finished F-8 F/N and I'm hoping to build one someday in 1/32. So, did you build that online?
