RiderFan
I've already approached the league for a license to this scheme. Awesome!
martin_sam_2000
That is awesome. I hope I get a chance to see it here in CYOW. For those who are interested, the Reg is C-GCNO. Sean
taylorde
I'd build that! DaveT
Jennings
I'd hate to think what a license will cost...
RiderFan
I've built licensed CFL products in the past and know the licensing director, I'm sure I can work something reasonable. Building licensed products has been part of my career for the past 25 years. The real question is whether or not there will be enough royalties from sales to make it worth their while to administer. Rich in name only
Suggest that they save the admin cost entirely by giving the license and accounting for it as "Goodwill" (an actual asset accounting line for those non-accountants out there). Then share with them the photos, contests, and number of buyers/builders as objective measures of that goodwill.
MoFo
It's the CFL. My guess is licensing would be a pack of bubblegum and some belly-button lint.

RiderFan
It's the CFL. My guess is licensing would be a pack of bubblegum and some belly-button lint. Your guess isn't even close. Having worked on licensed products all the major leagues in North America and some in Europe, as well as multiple comic book IP's, I can tell you first hand that the CFL's royalty expectations are pretty typical. Have been for at least 20 years. The hard part is the actual model. As near as I can tell there's only one kit, in one scale, of a 737-300 and that's not easily available. That may be the bigger issue than the license.
Jennings
The real question is whether or not there will be enough royalties from sales to make it worth their while to administer. That never stopped AMR Corporation. When I approached them about licensed American Airlines decals in 1999, they wanted a $1500 **application** fee just for the privilege of applying to them to get a license! Then they wanted actual finished products in their hand to see and hold before they gave you a yay or a nay, and *then* they wanted a substantial piece of every item sold. I politely told them to shove their airline where the sun don't shine.

Daco's is far and away the better of the two, but it's expensive and not easy to get. Minicraft's is so-so (at best), and unfortunately, not easy to get either. MC has recently reissued their -400 (longer fuselage, otherwise identical) only because the Chinese lost the fuselage tool for the -300 kit. It's easy enough to chop down a -400, but most 'casual' modelers won't be bothered. But I guess a casual modeler isn't going to buy a specialist decal either. MoFo
Okay, okay... A couple of party-sized pizzas, then. Their bargaining position is for a side of chicken wings, too, but I'm pretty confident they'll settle for a 2L pop and some dipping sauce. As for kits, there are four. Minicraft and Daco do it in 1/144; Welsh and AIM do it in 1/
Jennings
But as noted, the Minicraft kit no longer exists. And for the record, that's not a "rumor" or hearsay. That came to me directly from Louis Nace at Minicraft when I did the decal art for their 737-400 release a year or so ago.

rob.w
I hope someone is sucessful in getting a licence to produce this scheme as a decal sheet. I'd love to add this to my airliner shelf.

Danny did another run of his 737 kits and has plenty in stock. When he did his 104 set he received a sea container full of sprues for 737s and his 104 sets.
Flyboyf18
Well I got my decals for this bird now I need to lay my hands on a 72nd 737-300, hmmmm I see a Welsh kit in my future......
RiderFan
Just FYI, they do not have a license to use those marks.
skidbuggy
I politely told them to shove their airline where the sun don't shine. I wish the pilots would have done that with the recent contract, but I digress.
