Jinxter13
I've seen a lot of pilot figures in finished builds, but to date none that actually match any ethnic groups' true skin tones. Is there a group/brand of paints that comes close to being true for this niche of modeling?. We all know there are lighter to darker shades of skin in all walks of life, but getting it to actually look like skin well........Those old schoolers among us will remember the testors flesh color and how off that was; a pilot with glossy skin, really? . MacStingy
Mix mix mix I have never found flesh in a bottle that came close to a live individual. Most of them seem too orange or pink to my eye. First thing I do with Tamiya flesh is to add lots of white. From there you can add buff or red to reach a reasonable colour for overall. A tiny touch of red in the blend again for cheeks, nose and a bit more red for lips if you like. I have also used radome tan as a starting point. If you are using acrylics, you will have to be quick. I find that beer caps work well for mixing these small amounts. Of course I have to do my bit to stay in cap supply. Cheers Paul

Just let a wash settle there and leave it. Edited November 30, 2014 by dahut
fulcrum1
I use Vallejo regular and game colors and mix and match.
compressorman
You could always mix up some custom colors from artist paint. Burnt sienna, raw sienna, red oxide, and white should make just about any complexion except for black people. Chris
Unglued
I mix colors until something tells me I'm in the ball park. In 1/72, my scale, it doesn't make enough difference for me to worry about. On the subject of pilot figures, do you know of any that are available in 1/72. All my models are 1/72 Vietnam-era aircraft, and I display them all "flying" in my man cave. Some, I've had to send up as drones because of a trained pilot shortage. I need pilots. I have the Revell NATO pilots set, but find it wanting. I've ended up trimming the butts and whacking off lower legs off several otherwise perfectly good pilots because they wouldn't fit in the plane.
