Interesting ebay gamble

Recommended Posts

I came across an ebay listing for a 1/48 Sukhoi Su-35/37 model kit. It was only 16.00 shipped from China. I figured i would see what was going on. The description lists a Windmark Su-35/37 conversion set. I sent a message to the seller asking if it was in fact a listing for the conversion set and he replied with a confirmation that it definitely was.

Sixteen dollars shipped and i am backed up if it is not as described. I will be interested to see how this go's.

Here is a link to another set if you want to try.

Maybe you will end up with a 1/48 Su for sixteen bucks. Not terrible for some.

Cheers!

i've take the gamble!

the worst it could be is the loss of 21 can$ ...or to receive a zhengdefu flanker...(which is slightly worst than just loose money IMHObiggrin.gif)

but if i end up having the windmark conversion set in mid january 2015, that would have been a winning gamble!

thanks for the link Mike!

Cheers!

Excellent! I received confirmation of shipment today. Now all of the prices are much higher. I wonder what boxing i will get? If it is the actual Windmark conversion i will pass out from joy. But i will be extremely happy with a Flanker kit in 1/48 $18.00 shipped from CHINA!!

  • 2 weeks later...

Well i got a package from China today. It was very well wrapped and contained a Minihobby Su-35/37 in shrinkwrap. I almost expected it to be this kit and not the Windmark set. I am happy and look forward to hammering this together one day. There are some quality differences over the Academy original but it looks like it can be made into a nice looking Sukhoi-esk aircraft.

i got that very well packed crap today ...

and here's what i wrote to the seller:

hi

today i receive a package from you

but it wasn't what i have paid for

it is NOT the item describe in the ebay auction.

it was written that it was the ACADEMY kit... not a minihobby rippoff of the academy kit...

but, more important.

in the description of the item it was stated that the auction includes the WindMark resin set (even stating the number of resin parts included...)

your item description was misleading , erroneous.

i wanted total refund.

i have nothing to do with the subpar plastic thing you shipped me!

and there is no way i ship it back to china as it will cost me as much as i paid for that crap! (ending up paying post office for nothing...)

bad feedback will be given to you if there is no refund.

thank you

and please stop lying in your item description.

so, i call it a "loosing" bid...

lets see what will happen next...

BTW, alone, by itself, the minihobby kit looks almost OK... but when you put it aside of the academy kit, it obviously looks squashy...a bit flattened... with loosy details, deep and canyon wide engraved lines and rivets...

I knew i was taking a risk so i kissed that $18.00 goodbye when i purchased it. I was surprised and a bit happy when the kit showed up packaged very well and brand new. He couldn't have made any money on that sale and he at least came through with what is in the picture. I emailed him about the inaccurate listing and left it at that.

The kit is nice enough to do something with. It is completely inaccurate and represents a Flanker i am not aware of.

It's been years since I've bid on anything on Ebay and I don't see any changes in the future. I figure the larger percentage of those folks are running a business and most of them are going to try to screw you to get your money. I've also discovered that my Grandmother told me a long time ago is true ("If it's too good to be, true, it usually is!" and it really applies to Ebay.

Let's see now Mingwin. You bid for an item on eBay that you were fairly certain would be the Minihobby kit but gambled would be something better. You lost that gamble and got the Minihobby kit. You then complained somewhat disingenuously and have obtained a refund from the seller.

To me this speaks volumes about integrity and not just that of the seller. It's certainly not something to boast about.

Personally with eBay if the deal does not look or read right I don't bid.

Darius, you forget to mention that i was hoping to get a resin conversion set with that kit!

that plastic kit you're talking about is just plain crapp academy rip-off...and worth nothing.

and if the seller refund me , it's mainly because he was aware that he was doing some kind of fraudulent advertisement in its item description.

the seller was claiming that the auction was for the academy kit, with the windmark conversion set... even claiming the number of resin parts that was supposed to be included...

also, by doing this, that way, i'm giving a service to the ebay system, and teach a lesson to the seller.(you won't fool everyone easily)

BTW i'm disliking the minihobby enough to say that if it was not a matter of expensive shipping from my home to anywhere in the world, i would gladly give it to anyone who ask for... for free!

if there is someone who wants it in the Québec area...it's all yours!

I would agree with your point of view if it wasn't for one thing. In the Original post, wayfarer 30 claimes he mailed the seller and asked if the resin set was included and he comfirmed that it was. Knowing this, this can't be a description mix up and the seller knew he was doing something wrong.

Maybe he is being deceptive, but he lost money at least twice. I think the seller is seriously confused since model kit's aren't his primary selling item. He has also since changed the price. It is clearly not an Academy kit in ANY of the photos.

ELs, Your steampunk Flanker is off the hook. Amazing creativity.
