godfrey1775
Looks like the Russians are upgrading the aging fleet of Mig-29s and they are wearing a slick new Flanker style splinter camo. Can any of the Mig experts here help me identify the colors in this pic? Mig 29 Looks to me like Light Ghost Gray, Dark Ghost Gray and Gunship Gray, but maybe a bit bluer? Surely the Russians aren't using US colors? Any help is hugely appreciated.
KursadA
This scheme has been in use for a few years now - I think it was first seen on the supposedly "new" MiG-29SMT's destined for Algeria. (The Algerians later discovered that they were old airframes and refused to accept them). There is a nice walkaround here, it could be helpful to determine the colors. The fresh scheme like in your link looks like Medium Grey (I'm assuming you're using Model Master paints). But it seems to darken as it ages, looking more like Neutral Grey: http://www.airliners.net/photo/Russia---Air/Mikoyan-Gurevich-MiG-29SMT-%289-19%29/2562128/L/&sid=26aed70da662db18322cec8d262d3f9a The paint quality seems to be like the brief Eggplant camo Russia used on their other aircraft, in that seems to fade/flake off easily. In case you're curious, many of their MiG-29A's and MiG-29C's have been re-done in an entirely overall grey camo scheme: http://www.airliners.net/photo/Russia---Air/Mikoyan-Gurevich-MiG-29S-%289-13S%29/2569326/L/&sid=fcf76ea5fd46aa3bb3d294820cfbc584 I think the pure-grey scheme was first used years ago at Lipetsk before being adopted widely. Some of their MiG-29UBs have been repainted with the "classic" MiG-29 grey/grey green scheme, RF-92265 in particular: Before: http://www.airliners.net/photo/Russia---Air/Mikoyan-Gurevich-MiG-29UB-%289-51%29/2052974/&sid=136d180f3daef130503bae095bda1a75 After: http://www.airliners.net/photo/Russia---Air/Mikoyan-Gurevich-MiG-29UB-%289-51%29/2484020/&sid=136d180f3daef130503bae095bda1a75 Edited January 27, 2015 by beingthehero
