ElectroSoldier
I just picked this up off one of the local papers not far from where I live http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/11757438.Fighter_jets_scrambled_to_intercept_two_Russian_bombers_off_Bournemouth_coast/?ref=fbshr I dont know how valid the story is about the bombers, but the F-15s were present, they flew over West Wight
cag_200
Welschap scrambled 2 RNLAF F-16s here during lunch break, heading north, why?
Koen L
Welschap scrambled 2 RNLAF F-16s here during lunch break, heading north, why? Welschap didn't scramble anything but the F-16s you saw/heard were part of an anti-terrorism exercise. Nothing to do with Electrosoldier's story. Have a look at http://www.omroepbrabant.nl/?news/2237971303/Grote+anti-terreuroefening+op+Vliegbasis+Eindhoven+F-16s+dwingen+gekaapt+vliegtuig+tot+landen.aspx (sorry, in Dutch only)
cag_200
Hi, It's reasonably accurate. The UK enthusiast forums tracked all the movements yesterday which included Northern QRA (Lossiemouth) and Southern QRA (Coningsby), along with a Voyager for AAR out of Brize Norton. Lossiemouth and Brize Norton scrambled in the morning, with Coningsby launching as they came South in the early afternoon. Lossiemouth recovered their Typhoons and launched again in the late afternoon when Coningsby recovered their jets as the Bears came back North. The tanker was up for most of the day. Lakenheath F-15s would just be routine training as they have nothing to do with UK national QRA tasking. Gary Edited January 29, 2015 by gary1701

ElectroSoldier
This story seems to have hit the national newspapers today.
Julien (UK)
Its getting back to the old cold war days with Russian aircraft here. Its not so much that they are there, its no flight plans, no transponders and the refusal to speak with ATC that will cause issues. A said the F-15 issue is nothing to do with it. We are not in that bad shape (yet!) that we are asking our American friends to fly QRA. I mean you have you hands full pulling maritime surveillance for us!
