Serelle
Hi folks! I'm going to start building the F-86F Sabre "Beautious Butch II" flown by Capt. Joseph McConnell during the Korean War. According to my research, Sabre cockpit color changed from Black to Grey "in 1953" but I can't confirm which cockpit color this aircraft had. Can anyone help me? F4DPhantomII
might depend on serial number. If it starts with 1 that is probably a 1951 contract year plane and I would go with black. If it starts with3 that would be 1953 contract. From what I was taught in the USAF.
Serelle
Thanks for the tip! It's a F-86F-1 serial 51-2910. Should be Black when built. Cheers Serelle
Jennings
Most definitely black. The order to swap over to grey cockpits didn't happen until the Korean War was over (or rather the armistice signed), in November of 1953. All KW Sabres had black cockpits.
