foxmulder_ms
I want to try my luck with resin casting. Since I am a beginner I wonder which type of resin is the best for this purpose? There is epoxy, polyester, polyurethane and also silicone I believe. Apparently polyester can be sanded and polished so I think that is good but still want to learn from you guys. What do big companies use like for example aires or eduard? Edited April 16, 2015 by foxmulder_ms
Triarius
The following sites have a wealth of information that will answer your questions: Smooth-on Bare Metal Foil Burman Industries My personal choice is Smooth-on, though I have used materials from both the others. FAR148
I've had really good success with micro mark rubber and resin http://www.micromark.com/casting-and-molding-supplies.html Also research and invest in a vacuum and or pressure chamber. Make getting good results molding and casting much easier. Steven L

Steven L My only problem with Micro-mark is that when I last bought materials, theirs was considerably more expensive than those I mentioned. On the other hand, you have to consider how much material you need, and some of the other suppliers only sell in relatively large quantities. So it pays to do some hard thinking and some math. foxmulder_ms
Thanks guys. But still part of my question stands, so let's say for Eduard or Aires, do they use polyester resin or smt else?
dragonlance
IIRC the Czechs use the Polyurethane resins (PUR). Vedran
