Gato Submarine Hull Flood Vents

Recommended Posts

I'm in the process of building the Revell 1/72 Gato sub as the USS Cod (SS224). It's a firly early boat in the Gato-class production run.

I'm seeking info, especially photos/images, of the hull bottom flood vents of any Gato boat. I have gotten the Nautilus Models scribing template for the flood vents, but the instructions do not answer all the questions I have in order to depict them on the model.

Can anyone assist with some shots that will give me an idea of what these vents looked like and what sort of structure was behind these vents?

Thanks for any help you can offer. Please correspond directly to mongo1956 -at- zoomtown.com

Long after everyone else in the sub modeling world I'm getting around to my 1/72 Revell GATO.  I'm doing the 1946 +/- ss396 Ronquil . . .  Have dealt with James at Nautilus Models & got the correct conversion kit with the short Balao fairwater & styrene 1944 Portsmouth limber holes .  One advantage to starting late in the game is 3-D printing has really taken off , thank the modeling gods for Shapeways & CG Trader. what I need help with right now is the long row of small free flood holes along the edge of the deck . . . all 300-ish of them.  can anyone help with the spacing & drill bit size in 1/72. I found someone who did it in 1/144 ( trumpeter - see pics , but no specs to resize by ) I"ll post pics of progress soon.
