1/350 USA Nimitz class update sets?

Recommended Posts

The Trumpeter 1/350 USS Nimitz has been around for a while now and i'm surprised the kit has not been re-released as amother member of the class updated in current configuration - but it hasn't. I'm surprised that no none has yet done an update set with new sponsons etc to allow the kit to be built in a more current for? Has this been actively considered by an aftermarket supplier at all?

I have this kit and started building it in a newer configuration (around the mid 2000's) but when I got to the sponsons and such I stopped for lack of an approach. There are some photoetch sets for it to update the radar tower and various other items, but nothing that I know of for the hull and island mods. Now that 3D printing is readily available I was thinking about trying to tackle some of those items. If I come up with anything I'll let you know. If you have any references or sources of references let me know and that would definitely help. It is a great kit in many ways and could be really really great with some work.

Hi Bill, it would be great to have some Hull.and Island Mods that could possibly allow the kit to be built as Nimitz at later dates in her life, say post refit, or as other members of the class. Research will be the key. If I can come up with anything i'll let u know, 3D printing could be handy here.

Boy, I might have to save up for this kit. The Nimitz sure looks impressive in the box so I can only imagine what it must look like completed :o !

A number of new 1/350 carriers coming from Trumpeter ( Connie, JFK & Kitty Hawk) but still no updated Nimitz Class, I wonder why??
