Key words highlighted, bold, and italics based on the ongoing (never ending...?) F-14D saga. One could ask how far in the future...3,6, 9+ years?. Will another company come along in the meantime and beat them to market? In my opinion AMK should have stayed focused on Russian aircraft and lesser modeled yet interesting/popular aircraft and avoided a subject like the F-14. Their Mig-31 is a great kit, fun to build, and they should have immediately followed that up with the Mig-25 and its derivatives (again, only my opinion). Heck, I am not even a fan of Russian aircraft and I bought two AMK Mig-31's so I would be all over a Mig -25 or two by them (and I doubt I'm alone in this sentiment ). Modelers with an interest in Russian/Soviet aircraft would fawn all over AMK had they/if they made a name for themselves in producing quality kits of neglected or inaccurate subjects of Russian/Soviet aircraft and other aircraft like the F-111 series for example. The timing of the Tamiya F-14D release, coupled with AMK not committing to a firm release date for their kit, will impact AMK. To what extent remains to be seen... The Tamiya Delta will be front news in all modelling magazines this spring and this summer. It will be released this summer, it will stay in the spotlight long time. It is the worst moment to release a direct concurrent. And it's Tamiya, moulds will not disappear in oblivion in few years, they will last decades. So, it's too late. They had a very large window, 3 years....3 years, they waste it, they lost. Amen!!
anj4de
I will just wait for AMK and in the mean time buy a Tamiya -D 🙂 Once AMK is ready I will ge that one as well... I have build Tamiya's -A and it was a wonderful project. But there is a lot of room for AMK to come up with extras the Tamiya main stream (but brilliant) kit does not have. cheers Uwe
Manuel J. Armas S.
AMK vs Tamiya Tamiya is a great F-14, but it have lack details in some áreas, if AMK make it better it will be a better choice.

Wafu
You wait for a bus all day, then two come along going to same place you want to go, that's the rule of life😎 Ive not seen a Tamiya Tomcat in the flesh but have read all the threads, seems like my wallet will be empty at the end of summer. I'm in the same boat as Jon, I've got a preorder, but given how amazing the engineering on the tamiya kit has been, just having an option for dropped flaps and a few more weapons I likely won't use aren't exactly selling points any more. Maybe the AMK will be better somehow, but probably not enough to overcome Tamiyas street cred. Now the price has to be competitive in order to make it marketable, and if AMK can't swing a sub-$80 price point, they're effectively cutting their own legs off. Too true there. And for all the Tamiya F-14 fans that would like the option, Kasl Hobby have a resin wing set with dropped flaps and slats which uses a fibre glass spar to support it. Only difference with installation is that the entire wing is a single cast piece and anchors at the pivot points therefore the kit parts that the wings normally slide onto are not used. Apologies if someone may have already pointed this out. I'm not so sure that AMK have missed the boat here. Much like F-15, F-16 and F-18 fans among us, there's enough people in the modelling community that no matter what, are going to buy the next kit on the market for their interested genre despite any differences in moldings, detail, accuracy etc. I personally own at at least one F-14 kit from most of the manufacturers out there including old Monogram and Italeri types right through Hobby Boss, Trumpeter, Tamiya. I wouldn't be counting AMK out just yet until the kit is released for people to make up their own mind about it. In the meantime we can all bask in the sunshine of the wonderful Tamiya kit until the the next rendition comes along, then there will be a new ray of sunshine!!! Just thought I'd put a positive spin on the AMK saga. Edited May 10, 2018 by Andrew Maverick Taylor

Berkut
If there can be dozens of Bf-109's and Fw-190's on the market made by different manufacturers - why cant there be several F-14's?

nachjager
Maybe I am being bit sarcastic with this comment but.....AMK should have announced a new tool 1/48 A-10A/C as 'coming soon' , maybe show some CAD drawings , anything to lure Tamiya into doing a A-10.

Yup. -and it's going to be a great kit. AMK have proven that they do good work, and if they make a mistake, they fix it. And my pre-order price is $54.00 from Victory. How much is the Tam kit costing? How long did TrumpyBoss list the Mig-31 and SU-27 series in their catalog before they were released? It's a model, not a sucking chest wound. Waiting is just part of life...

At this point in time I think they should only focus on completing the Delta and getting it into the hands of those who pre-ordered...........over 12 months ago no less! Shame! stalal
AMK is also up and coming. But they seem like far, far behind Tamiya. From these pictures at least, only main fuselage and weapons. Edited May 10, 2018 by stalal
