TuAF F-16 Blk.50, Arctic Tiger

Recommended Posts

Hello Tiger dudes!

I know it is late but I finally decided to post my WIP here as I have the Tamiya F-16 CJ Block 50 on my workbench for a while already. I have to convert it a little bit to match the turkish version. Decals come from Modell Alliance.

I really like the blue tail and the colorful yellow gas bags!

Here I show you the steps to build that very nice Tamiya kit, Detail is awesome but some fellow modellers already told me that it is NOT a shake and bake and it has its tricky parts to master. Up to now I only built Hasegawa and Italeri Vipers. So let's see...

Intake was clued together not due to the instruction. I follow the advice of a friend who already built a few Tamiya Vipers. Cockpit is in and later I will add the pilot or a resin seat. Not decided yet.

Intake is complete as well as the gear wells, painted white.

Landing gear will be installed after painting and decaling. I am afraid to break it, not seldom Murphy is visiting me.

So that is now many days later. After a bit filling, sanding, rescribing it was time for the primer. Next I did a wash with black to highlight the panel lines. That is my way of "preshading".

Next stage will be the painting. Stay tuned! More to come.

After painting with Gunze aqueous colors I sprayed clear gloss coat. Preparing for the decals.

Here the underside of the fuselage. You can see also the gas bags already painted Gunze H 305 yellow. Added a bit of Gunze white and then sprayed - highly deluted - a light mist of that paint on a few spots to break the yellow.

The rudder is already painted in blue. Here I am not happy at all with MA decals: the blue for the tail looks like purple to me! So I decided to spray the tail and cut of everything what's "purple" from the tiger decal. Oh boy, what a work!

I used a new scalpel to make it.

Very nice to see the "Brother" of my NTM project built here. But at least your progress looks quite good and I keep my fingers crossed that you finish in time AND show us a neat built F-16 sporting some colors.

Now it is time for the decals. Have to trim the walkway lines, unlike the modern USAF Vipers the TuAF Viper(s?) here still have it. MA decals are very good to work with, ofc using set and sol, sometimes Mr. Setter.

Now let's work on the seat. Later it can happen that I will put in a resin seat, but so far I try the Tamiya one.

Also Using the seatbelt decals. I want so see how it will look like.

Btw. here you can see my choice of Gunze paints.

Now it is weekend and so there is a bit more time for the hobby. Tanks are on, even the steel pin should be held by the rubber (the so called polycaps), it is not strong enough. So I fixed them with white glue aditionally.

Here a cloe up from the cockpit section. The canopy can be removed still.

And I called it done! A few pics right here, more to come in the other thread.
