I am going to combine a couple parts from a finished 1/48 CC-130H into a CC-130J, to make a current stretch model Herc, with Canmilair decals.

This sucker will be HUGE!!!

After much consideration, I have decided upon the Revell of Germany 1/72 A400M . A large kit of a large plane in a small scale.

IMGP7577-vi.jpg

kit has not been started, but that will change very soon.

I have decided upon the German camouflage version. Since the paint colors are only given in revell colors, I am going to have to make use of the paint cross reference charts. One color is a 80/20 mix so hopefully the matches are close enough so each color is still close enough to make a proper mix. I am also thinking of building it with the ramp down, and the door open, to make it even harder to find a place to put it, and show off all the detail inside.

I have decided upon the German camouflage version.

The kit was released before Germany received their aircraft. The Luftwaffe A400M's are solid grey.

From the kit decals, it's easier to go with France if you want an in-service aircraft. You will need a French flag for the tail (easy enough to paint yourself) and proper lettering.

I'm in with this, not going to ad any AM maybe just a little scratch building here and there, I'm off for 9 days after tomorrow and if I can ditch the honey do list I can make a pretty good dent in this one.

This will be my big build. I was originally going to do a B-26, but while it does fit within the parameters, its really not THAT big. Now this sucker is. With a wingspan well over 2 feet, I honestly don't know where I am going to put it when completed.

I'll need to find another copy of the decal sheet; seems the nose art was on both sides, and the decals only supply 1.

I'll join with a 1/144th Minicraft KC-135R. All I've done so far is attempt to figure out how to correct the kit's windscreen.

Canopy%20fix_zps6pkw2zua.jpg

I plan to replicate the sun shades for the cockpit windows with Bare Metal Foil and then I also plan to make intake covers. Hopefully, I'll have this built, painted, and ready for decals in time for Caracal's 1/144th sheet or Fundekals 1/144th sheet!

Cheers,

John

My stash contains three qualifying models, a Trumpeter 1/48 C-47A (~24"), RoG 1/48 Ju-52/3m (~24"), and RoG 1/144 C-17A (~14"). I'm going to go with the Ju-52/3m. This won't have the longest wingspan in my cabinet (a 1/48 RQ-4B is nearly 33"), but it will be the most burly until that C-47A gets built.

I'm going to do it as a LOT pre-war airliner, SP-AKX, in service from 1936 until the September Campaign (1939 invasion). Techmod has a decal set with three variants of the markings. This was an unusual variant as it had Bristol Pegasus engines and Hamilton-Standard 3-blade props. I'll use CMK resin engines and appropriately-sized Ultracast HS props that I'll modify to shape. Given the likely weight of this beast, I'll also use SAC metal gear. Finally, I've got Eduard masks and CMK's Tante Ju interior set whence I'll pull some TBD bits.

Here's the pile o' bits less the CMK engines that are in the mail.

I'm just finishing up an F-16 for the Tiger GB, and I have a YMS ready to start, so it will be a week or so before I get going on this beast.

Thinking of doing the 48th F-101B, if that counts.

Unfortunately it does not meet the guidelines, it is a fighter. Do you have any big multi engine Airliner, Airlifter or bomber kits?

I'm in the same boat as Trojan Thunder - way too many kits that qualify in the stash. Here, in order, are the kits I might do (probability of getting them done diminishes the lower you go in the list):

-1/48 B-29. A friend bought this, had two babies, and asked me to build it for him

-1/72 CC-130J Italeri. I will watch Phantom's build thread to see what he is doing with the J kit, and follow along

-1/72 Lancaster Bomber (Revell kit).

-1/144 C-17. Building as an RCAF version

-1/144 CRJ-100. Not sure what decals to use. Will do this as a warm-up for the Challenger

-1/144 Challenger 604. Either Canadian Forces VIP scheme decals, or try to duplicate a Bombardier corporate jet I flew for 2 years

Now, time to finish a commission build before I can get into this GB.

Oh, definitely the B-29. I just need to finish a CF-18 I'm building for someone first. The good news about the B-29 is I don't need to worry about storage; the guy who gave it to me will be displaying it at his house. At least until his wife figures out how big it is... :woot.gif:

Buddy,

I was going to challenge you to a Revell 72nd scale Lancaster build off! <_< I understand about the build urgency for the B-29 though.

Stay tuned for further developments.

Good luck with your B (for behemoth!) - 29 project.

According to my calculations

Wingspan: 103 ft 9 in (31.62 m)

so

1245 " / 72 = 17.2 "

17 > 13

so it is eligible!

start building!

So a 1/72 B-17 would be ok or does it have to be 1/48?

If so and I get motivated it's about time I build a new Fort.

On sober second thought, I'm in for a 1/72 Lanc build-off. I know you have a great kit for that :woot.gif:

and I can build the Lanc from my Dambusters boxing 617 Sqn (1/48 Tornado also in kit, but won't build it right away).

Ready to start?

I am, I do have and thanks again.

I will be putting the finishing touches on my F-15 this evening so I plan to start in this build tomorrow.

Game on, mon chum.
