Jennings
Airfix keeps knocking them out of the park (or off the pitch, as it were). Due in February 2016!
Scooby
Great news from Airfix! Thanks Hornby for revitalizing this company!!!!!
dnl42
Very cool! With the Tamiya Beaufighter and Mosquito, this provides at least one variant of all No. 307 Squadron aircraft!
WymanV
About time one of the "mainstream" outfits did one. Long overdue. Ken

Don't want to rain on your parade but a UK dealer tells me the the manufacturer is being done in India now instead of China . TH QC is not good. RCAFFAN
Don't want to rain on your parade but a UK dealer tells me the the manufacturer is being done in India now instead of China . TH QC is not good. Cheers, Chritian The manufacturing has been done in India for years now so there is no real truth to this statement. Don't know that Airfix was ever done in China in the first place. Yeah there have been some problems with some clear parts but the 1/48 Spit and Hurri people are raving about came from India as has all the kits for years now. Their 1/72 Defiant was done in India and it is a great kit. Why would the 1/48 suddenly be bad from India when all their recent good kits came from there. Since when was China known for great quality control anyway..... Edited July 25, 2015 by RCAFFAN
Darius at home
Nice!!! I have had the Flashback and Classic Airframes kits in the stash for years but never got around to them as there was always something less stressful to build... The Airfix Defiant looks to be much more enjoyable. Darius Edited July 25, 2015 by Darius at home

Otto
That is absolutely beautiful, but howbaut a new Tempest series or DH Hornet. The Chinese one is absolutely atrocious. Or even a new Spit XII.
Jennings
Someone on another site said that Defiant night fighters had a longer nose than the day fighter version. I've looked at everything I can find on the Defiant, and I can't find any mention of that. The first night fighters were converted *from* day fighters.. Anyone know for sure?? Otto
The ONLY reason they would have a longer nose is if the early versions had a single stage supercharger and the later versions received a two stage supercharger. This was the reason why the nose was lengthened between the Mk.V and Mk.IX Spits and the Mk.I and Mk.II Hurricanes. so if some of the later Defiants received one of the later engines, it is possible it had a longer nose. Otto
I did find this info which would corroborate that statement. Defiant Mk II"Two-seat night fighter for the RAF, powered by a 1,280 hp (954 kW) Rolls-Royce Merlin XX piston engine, and fitted with the AI Mk IV airborne interception radar; 210 built." Otto
OK after all the research, they were ALL 10.77m long 35'-4"+-

Or even a new Spit XII. Eduard are doing a new Tempest but agree with you about the Hornet. Although a new Mk.XII would be nice, I would like to see them do more Spit's (VII, XI, XIV) and some more Seafire's before they get around to redoing that one. Otto
Any spit variant not yet available would be good. I myself would LOVE to se a Radial powered Tempest. But a Bristol Brigand would be the Bee all End all for me

Hal Marshman Sr
it may not have been successful in its intended role, but it's an interesting looking machine, and to my eyes, a pretty one. I'm not basically a fan of Brit airplanes. but I do like this one.

Actually, no, that's not true; the Defiant II had the Merlin XX, with a two-SPEED supercharger, in place of the Merlin III, and, like the Hurricane II versus the Mk.I, the fuselage was 4" longer than the Defiant I. The same 4" applied to the abandoned Spitfire III fuselage length, while the Spitfire VII/VIII/IX fuselages were 9" longer than the Mk.I-VI.
Otto
I think Eduard are doing the Mk.II as well as the V. On these BRITISH aircraft I would much rather buy them from Airfix. Ohhhhh that DH hornet would be nice. I gave up on the Chinese kits in general, 9:10 are awful. The Corsairs, Hornets, Spitefuls, Etc Etc are really bad. I think the last decent kit I remember was the F4F-3 (1/48) They are OK on the Russian and Chinese Jets and that is about all.
Jennings
I'd be surprised if we don't see a new Hornet from Airfix in the next couple of years. It's such a blindingly obvious choice for them.
