Otto
What are the odds of an Airfix 1/48 Sea Fury? That's another one. The Chinese kit is pretty bad. The old HobbyCraft kit is much more accurate but is showing its age and is very simplistic.

I took the best of both worlds (and a leaf out of Brett Green's book) and combined both kits. Apologies for the thread hijack. Stephen

Stephen Can I ask which parts came from which kit? After walking around one at an airshow earlier this year, I'm really interested in the aircraft.

Fuselage from HC and wings from Trumpeter if it is the same as Brett's version.
Jennings
Yeah, I'd see Airfix doing a Sea Fury too. That would be killer if it looked like the quality of their new Spits and Hurricane in 1/48! Bubye Trumpeter!
sharkmouth
Bubye Trumpeter! Having done the same Hobbycraft/Trumpeter mix for my Sea Fury (Cuban of course), I will echo add to that sentiment: Bubye Trumpeter & Hobbycraft Sea Furies! Strangely enough, I had hoped that Trumpeter's Sea Fury had improved on the Hobbycraft but something told me to hold onto the three in my stash. Jennings
With the old PP Aeroparts mega-set, the HC kit can be turned into a Sea Fury. The Trumpeter mess looks like somebody fired at it with a shotgun and put dents all over it in neat rows.

Jennings
Never had a recce version, and was never flown by Thailand, so I will pass. You could safely and accurately say that about probably 98% of military aircraft in history :)

I still have one PP Aeroparts (the one with the bird), one Cooper Details, one Tom's Modelworks (useless), plus PE for the Hobbycraft kit. Regards,
Chris L
The manufacturing has been done in India for years now so there is no real truth to this statement. Don't know that Airfix was ever done in China in the first place. Yeah there have been some problems with some clear parts but the 1/48 Spit and Hurri people are raving about came from India as has all the kits for years now. Their 1/72 Defiant was done in India and it is a great kit. Why would the 1/48 suddenly be bad from India when all their recent good kits came from there. Since when was China known for great quality control anyway..... I'm glad you guys are in such position that you know absolutely everything that is taking place in the manufacturing world . Perhaps I did not make myself perfectly clear ....Thy are falling out of the molds in India and it appears that there is some problems with QA. If you don't believe that , perhaps you can tell my friend the Hobby shop owner and aircraft builder in the UK how he just got a brand new DO 17Z with the warped fuselage :( I can only hope that mine is straight . Drifterdon
I'd be surprised if we don't see a new Hornet from Airfix in the next couple of years. It's such a blindingly obvious choice for them. Talking about a blindingly obvious choice for Airfix, how about a DHC-1 Chipmunk in 1/48? This just screams "AIRFIX"!

ajd3530
I am seriously considering pre-ordering one of these. I wonder how much more shipping to the US would be...
