MoFo
Can anyone explain what's the deal with this tire? Re-treaded by a competitor? Zap?

Neo
I think hes asking why there is an airforce guy helping a navy guy on a navy plane Edited August 14, 2015 by Neo
2qwik4u
Either that or he's asking why there are Michelin AND Goodyear markings on the tire. (Look just to the left of the "Y" in Goodyear)
boom175
Recaps! And thats a US Navy air crewman helping out a ground guy.
rightwinger26
The Navy uses retreads all the time, and anyone can get Tire and Wheel qualified.
MoFo
Yes, it was the Michelin name stamped on a Goodyear tire that had me scratching my head. In fact - typical modeller - I was so focused on the tiny detail, I completely missed the AF guy! :D
ST0RM
What AF guy? The dude in the flight suit has gold wings, not silver. And he's wearing black boots, not green. He's an enlisted crewman. Maybe the FE. -Jeff
midnightprowler
No Michelin markings on that tire, it is the Goodyear wing foot thing.
habu2
No Michelin markings on that tire, it is the Goodyear wing foot thing. Clearly says Michelin, radially outward above the Y in GOODYEAR
Pete
It clearly says Michelin, next to the Goodyear print. Click on the pic to enlarge it.

Gambler
Man, you really must study a pic to notice that Michelin logo! :D I was flat out seeing it even after it was pointed out.
DutyCat
It does say Michelin there, it the tire does not appear to be a retread, BTW. I have personally never seen a retread on a military, or any other aircraft. Not saying it isn't done. I don't know. It could be that the Goodyear tire pictured is manufactured under contract by Michelin. Maybe Goodyear does not make that size and Michelin does, but Goodyear wants to be able to distribute it with their logo.
rightwinger26
The navy does use retreads, a lot. They don't have as high of wear limits as new tires, the wear indicators are shallower, and you see chord much quicker, but they are very common.
Spongebob
Are they using a weapons loader as a jack?
rightwinger26
That, I don't know about. On 18's, a two and half ton axle jack is used, I think it's named for how much it weighs, not how much it can lift
